She was born June 16, 1925, in Howard, a daughter of the late Harry Oscar and Sarah Margaret Ritz Fye and raised by her mother and stepfather, the late Orin E. Fye. Early in life she was married to Ira &amp;quot;Shorty&amp;quot; Mayes who survives in Florida. On October 21, 1963, she married Robert James Grimm who preceded her in death on Sept. 5, 2005. Mary June graduated from Howard High School in 1942. An unusually talented entertainer and musician, she began playing and singing in various local venues as a young girl. In her adult life she continued with her love of music, having performed with many professional well-known artists and groups, including the Louisiana Hayride Jamboree in Shreveport, La., along with her brothers, Gene and Johnny, the Red Sovine Band, and the first All Girl Country Band: Abbie Neal and her Ranch Girls on TV. During World War II she performed nationally and internationally in Greenland and Newfoundland doing U.S.O shows. She also toured with Porter Wagner, Grandpa Jones, Ernest Tubb, and Patsy Cline. After retiring from show business she worked as a cosmetician. She loved spending time with her family, quilting, playing her guitar and writing songs. She was a member of the Angel Club in State College and most recently enjoyed playing Pinochle at the East Pennsboro Township Senior Center and singing in the choir at the Enola First Church of God. Surviving is one daughter, Bonnie Madden, of Camp Hill; one son, Gene Mayes and his wife, Ruth Ann, of Pleasant Gap; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Campbell,Courtney Poulos, Dominique Madden. Keirah Madden, Stephen, Christopher and T. J. Mayes; nine great-grandchildren, Michelle and Jesse Sopp, Nicole Campbell, Nikos Poulos, Macy, Julia, Trent, Lily and Maxwell Mayes; two great-great-grandchildren, Amya Sopp and Jacob Campbell; four brothers, George Fye, of Vero Beach Fla., William Fye, of Warriors Mark, Gene Fye, of Port Matilda and John Fye, of Port Orange, Fla. In addition to her parents and second husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Sarah Margaret Fye Robinson and one brother, Harry Fye. Friends will be received from 5-7 p.m., Sunday, May 19, 2013, at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service P. C., 226 S. Pennsylvania Ave. Centre Hall; and from 10-11 a.m., Monday, May 20, at the funeral home. The funeral will follow immediately at 11 a.m., with the Reverend George Jensen officiating.
