Piers Ashworth, QC, a Recorder of the Crown Court, 1974-96, died 16
April, 2004, aged 72. He had been suffering from cancer.

He was born 27 May, 1931, the son of Tom and Mollie Ashworth, and was
educated at Christ's Hospital; Pembroke College, Cambridge [Scholar];
BA Canterbury, 1955; Harmsworth Law Scholar, 1956.

Career: Commissioned into the Royal Signals, 1951; Called to the Bar
at the Middle Temple, 1956, Bencher 1984; served on the Midland and
Oxford Circuit; Chairman of the Bar Mutual Indemnity Fund Ltd,
1987-98; Governor and Alnmoner, Christ's Hospital from 1986.

Queen's Counsel, 1973.

Mr. Ashworth was twice married, firstly in 1959 [divorced 1978], to
Iolene Jennifer, younger daughter of W.G. Foxley, by whom he had three
sons, Miles, Guy and Lance, and one daughter, Samantha; married
secondly, 1980, Elizabeth [Liz], daughter of A.J.S. Aston.

A Service of Thanksgiving is to be held at Goring Parish Church, St
Thomas of Canterbury, 27 May, 2004.
