Former major league baseball player and longtime

Pete was born and grew up in Greenwich, CT.
He was a star player on his High School baseball
team, and after graduation signed with the
Pittsburgh Pirates organization. His career was
put on hold when he joined the Navy in 1943.

After WWII, he resumed his baseball career, and
went to play in Selma, then on to AAA
Indianapolis. He was an All-Star shortstop for
both.

In Indianapolis, he met and married the love of his
life, Joan Murdock. They were married 62 years at
the time of his death. He is also survived by a son,
Peter III (spouse Bonnie Cousino); and a daughter,
Sharon Powers (husband Dennis); grandchildren,
Peter Paul IV, Shannon Markel, Kelly Chandler
and Meghan Powers; and three great-grandchildren,
Erin, Claudia and Thomas. He is further survived by
nieces, nephews, and friends.

He played for the Pirates until 1953, then went to
the Cardinals. He left the majors after that, but
continued in the minor leagues for several more
years.

Upon moving to Pompano, Pete became a letter
carrier for the Postal Service, but always kept
active in the sports community. He refereed and
umpired, did some scouting for the Pirate
organization, wrote a column for the Pompano
Town News, and coached. In 1967 he coached
Cardinal Gibbons to a 5th place finish in the state.
He also coached the American Legion team, and
for Pine Crest. Pete was an excellent tennis player,
and won many local tournaments in singles and
doubles.

Pete led a very long. rich, and rewarding life filled
with love and success. He lived his dream.

Services were held April 27, 2010. In lieu of flowers,
the family requests donations be made to the
