A NAKED man plunged from a window and died as stunned shoppers looked
on in horror.
An air ambulance was launched and landed in Saffron Walden town centre
in a bid to save the man's life.
Shoppers were left traumatised after hearing the man hit the ground when
he fell from the building in an alleyway off Kings Street.
The East of England Ambulance Service landed its helicopter on a small
patch of grass between Swan Meadow car park and Walden Place.
An ambulance, two paramedics, and several police units also attended.
The area was cordoned off for the rest of Saturday afternoon.
One man, who was close to where the victim fell, said: "At first it was
a shock. It was the sound of him hitting the street that was just so
awful. It was a terrible feeling. Everyone was just stunned by it.
"The paramedics came and tried CPR on him but it was too late. It is
very sad."
One resident said: "It's been a terrible shock for everyone in the town.
It happened in broad daylight on Saturday when there were loads of
people out shopping.
"I just hope no children were around to see it. I really feel for the
man's family and friends and I am sure everyone's best wishes are with
them."
Another woman, who witnessed the tragedy, said: "I saw it happen and it
was awful. I just can't bring myself to talk about it."
An Essex police spokeswoman said: "Police were called following reports
that a man fell from a window. Officers arrived to find the man had
suffered serious injuries. He died shortly afterwards at the scene.
"Police are not treating the death as suspicious."
Essex coroner's office is investigating the death.
The name of the man has not yet been released.
