Acorn Going Bankrupt

It's been a disastrous couple of years for community organizing group
Acorn, but the end seems mercifully near. The organization is
preparing to file for bankruptcy protection, The New York Times
reports, finally collapsing under the weight of a loss of government
funding, a series of tough attacks from the right, and numerous
scandals involving fraud and incompetence. According to the Times, 15
of the group's 30 state chapters have disbanded in the last six
months, while two of its largest chapters, New York and California,
have broken off to form their own organizations.

An attack from the right???

It was two kids with a camera that exposed this criminal organization.

We should all thank them.

It really doesn't change things in the long run. Due to the negative
PR caused by the ACORN videos, ACORN is shutting down, but in the next
week or so we will see a brand new Community Organizing group with
absolutely no ties whatsoever to ACORN, with coincidentally all the
same employees that previously worked for ACORN. The only thing that
is changing is everybody at ACORN gets new business cards.

They were kids only compared to us, Mark. They were adults and they use
plenty of edits and video trickery to make a few ACORN workers look bad.
All prosecutions stemming from the "evidence" on the tapes and from the
testimony of the video tapers has been rejected by the courts. The male
did not present himself to the ACORN employees wearing that ridiculous
costume, for one. That was edited into the video. He also didn't ask
the questions exactly the way the video portrayed. Those were also
edited in. Of course I'm sure you know that he is now facing federal
charges stemming from another of his attempts at a "documentary". It's
the "kids" who were the scammers, not ACORN. ACORN was an effective
advocacy group for the poor that is much needed. It will re-emerge in
different form, despite the successful smear campaign of the
Republicans, because it is so needed.

And you don't think it was possible to fix them to make ACORN look as

It's already happened in NY and elsewhere but in MD supposedly they
are not reopening under a new name.
