'Skinny' McNabb, 90; Played In One Major League Baseball Game

Carl McNabb, known as "Skinny," and who played in one major league baseball
game for the Detroit Tigers, died July 16th in Jasper, Tennessee. He was
90.

On April 20th 1945, McNabb came to bat as a pinch-hitter for the Detroit
Tigers. He struck out.

Carl Mack McNabb, 90, passed away Monday, July
16, 2007, at a local hospital.

Mr. McNabb had played professional baseball for several
teams, including the Detroit Tigers in 1945.

After his baseball career ended, he moved back home to
Jasper and opened McNabb Grocery Store and then
worked for the U.S. postal services as a rural mail carrier
for 22 years. He also started and coached an American
Legion Baseball team in Jasper.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army who served in
World War II as a medic and was a member of Jasper
First Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mae Belle Miller
McNabb; parents, David Pidd and Era Fine McNabb.

He is survived by his nephews and nieces, Clifford and
Donnie Matthews, Don McNabb, Charlene Young and
Myrna Parker; and close friend and caregiver, Carol
Merritt.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. CDT
Wednesday, July 18, 2007, from the funeral home
chapel with the Rev. Roger Webb officiating.

Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Harlan "Fat" Lewis, Don McNabb,
Skipper Phillips, Red Grider, Harry Evans and Jose
Dominquez.

Visitation is from 4 until 9 p.m. CDT today.
