Ok., Ok, nothing to do with obituaries, but I read this, and I really had to yell
someplace, don't blame me. Edgard Allan Poe is still dead, and I think he would die again
with this. Maybe is the common sence is what is dead ??? whatever.

From Los Angeles (AP )

Michael Jackson plans to make the leap from pop star to movie star in the role of Edgar
Allan Poe, co-executive producer Gary L. Pudney said Tuesday.

Production of ``The Nightmares of Edgar Allan Poe'' was expected to begin next fall in
Canada and the film's theatrical release was set for 2002.

The plot focuses on the days leading up to the author's death at age 40. Poe, who wrote
``The Raven,'' ``The Murders in the Rue Morgue,'' ``The Fall of the House of Usher'' and
``The Masque of the Red Death"....(snip)

I checked the calendar, and no, it's not April Fools day......sigh

Cheers,

I heard this on "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me..." the NPR new quiz that is
played for laughs.  The panelists were given this one, and it was so
ridiculous that none of them could say anything that was actually
funnier than the true story.

I gave my roommate a chance at 20 questions on this, since he hadn't
heard it.  I told him a non-actor (only one feature film, but many
shorter films) wanted to play Poe.  With six questions left, he had it
down to a black singer, and he still didn't get it right!  (Note: I'm
not dissing my friend, it's just so unbeleivable that rational people
would dismiss it out of hand.

I'm not like other boys,

Perhaps this horror will be enough to make Poe rise from the dead?
Or the person mysteriously leaving a bottle and rose at the grave
be revealed?

Oh it was sort of revealed last year in the Baltimore Sun. The man who
started leaving the bottle of brandy (I think) on Poe's grave died.
There is the possibility of the man's son carrying on the tradition. No
names were mentioned and people around here don't *really* want to know.
It's a small, nice little mystery that does no harm.

Before you criticize, Michael did purchase the body of the Elephant Man (so
he could rehearse this part) and he did play a believable ghoul in the
"Thriller" video.  I wonder if the Nightmares of EAP will be a musical?
Hmmm.

A matter of perspective.
To me,the people avoiding finding out are thoroughly infuriating.
If you CAN'T unlock a mystery,that's one thing.But if you just don't
FEEL like it,you're a cheating tease just for mentioning that it
exists!

No wonder he can play a believable ghoul, specially after all that surgery. It gives me
the creeps to look at his pictures. If they would shot the video now, he wouldn't need
make up. Anyways, years ago, a Spanish band, Radio Futura, made a song from the poem
Annabel Lee, so, you don't go around giving more ideas..:-P . Can you imagine MJ wiggling
the butt and doing that thing with his crotch while he sings "Shall be lifted, Nevermore !
" ??????

Scarier than any of the tales or poems of Edgard Allan Poe.

Cheers,

They're not the first.  There is a beautiful setting of it composed by
Don Dilworth, sung by Joan Baez on her 1967 album, "Joan" (Vanguard
79240; arranged and conducted by Peter Schickele).

..leaving the rose I can understand, but the bottle would have been
kinda dumb, since Poe was known during his later life to have had a very
low tolerance for alcohol...a researcher at the University of Maryland,
Dr. R. Michael Benitez, wrote a report in the September 1996 issue of
the Maryland Medical Journal (excerpted in the 9/15/96 New York Times)
concluding Poe's actual cause of death--horrifyingly fitting of his
stories--was encephalitic rabies...

It occurs to me to give a little boost to my site. If anyone is interested in E A Poe they may be interested in this link, which has the Harry Clarke illustrations to Poe's "Tales of Mystery and Imagination". http://web.ukonline.co.uk/archer/poe.html
If you are interested in that then you may also be interested to know I have an edition of Poe's poems. This is illustrated by W H Robinson. The drawings are quite different in style from those of Clarke and they will, probably, be my next web project.
