what, are you like in a 5 1/2 year time warp?
I never even heard of that show, I thought maybe you meant the one
on CBS, but that started in 2000.

In other breaking news: Abraham Lincoln died of a gunshot wound to
the head while attending a play at Ford's theater.

jet planes will crash into the WTC towers.
That's only because he finally had his first cocktail.
What's funny (I guess) is he posts this every Mar. 31st.

Does he also put a bottle of booze on Edgar Allan Poe's grave each year?

Why, were you disappointed the other night?
Oh, god, no! Not President Lincoln.

Please tell me that Mary Todd Lincoln is safe.

...which reminds me, has anyone actually staged a complete production of OUR
AMERICAN COUSIN since that night? I was once told by a drama prof in college
that someone adapted it into something titled BLACK FRIDAY, which ends with
the Lincoln shooting, and that one pops up from time to time. She also told
me that, in addition to the association with the tragedy, OAC has one other
element working against it -- it wasn't a particularly good play to begin
with...

Google says that the last professional production of Our American
Cousin was in 1915 at the Booth Theater (!) in New York City. (I
wonder if it was a 50th anniversary production of some sort?) The play
was written in 1851, but no one mounted a production of it until 1858.
It proved to be very popular. There were a number of comedies at the
time that had American relatives visiting their stuffy British
relatives and getting the better of them, and maybe Our American Cousin
was brought along because it helped feed this mysterious need. All
accounts say that the play was bad. There were three different
versions of the play in print.
The version of the play you see these days sets an authentic production
of the original play within a flashback story set in the 1890s. The
wraparound story centers on the actors who were in the play when
Lincoln was shot. In this production, the three Our American Cousin
scripts have been edited and unified into one.

Boston composer Eric Sawyer has written an opera based on the play:

I heard they staged a production on the Titanic. Just as it got to the part
where the fatal shots rang out, the captain jumped up and said, "Hey, I
better get upstairs and look for icebergs!"

Personally, I had King Edward in a box.
