The president may have a golden tongue, but he shows increasingly that
he has a tin ear.
I've never seen a president so aloof from ordinary people, although he
is constantly invoking them as his natural constituency.
To a much greater extent than any of his predecessors, he seems to be
mired in ideology.

Then you didn't watch him. obama is in over his head. He's not
qualified to be the President.
Obama is at a complete lose without his teleprompter.
When he has to rely on his own thoughts and words
his true self glares forth for all to see. And it ain't pretty.
I suppose you would have preferred it had he instead read "The Pet
Goat?"

Excuse me, but were you living in the USA from 1/20/2001 - 1/20/2009?
I knew this was gonna happen. The shooter at Ft. Hood is a muslim,
and the wingnuts, survivalists, anti-Tax, "Pro-life" jerk-offs and
assholes stand in line to render anyone who belongs to Islam as a
terrorists...just like you all did in the immediate aftermath of 9/11.
It's my understanding that kind of stereotyping in the military caused
the Ft. Hood shooter to snap. No one is condoning his horrific acts,
but it's narrow attitudes and prejudices of the Nativists and
Jingoists among you that impact poor souls like that.

Seems to me that you are engaging in a great deal of stereotyping
yourself.
Magnus
Exactly so. Well put.
It's all just the usual drivel.
I believe these are the words the ostrich says once it has buried its
head in the sand.

No one and no thing can "cause" someone to go on a shooting rampage.
People are responsible for their actions.

That's the truth.
Or from 1976 to 1980 when Jimmy Carter one time preached to us on
national TV about the American Malaise. Yep, Jimmy boy blamed
Americans instead of himself for his own shortcomings. We can go to
the past all we want but you must remember, we live in the present.
Think about that. Don't be so lame.
From Carter who obama is just like:
As I noted earlier this week, Carter has channeled his hatred of non-
leftists, secular and religious, into a glut of slanders in his new
bestseller, Our Endangered Values. He charges his opponents with,
among other things, countenancing female circumcision, defending the
murder of federal judges, torturing innocent Islamofascists, and
forcing North Korea to manufacture nuclear weapons. Jimmy once again
offers himself as the nation’s savior-by-acclamation, leading his
errant people, like a latter-day Moses, to the Promised Land. Every
time he flashes his toothy grin before an adoring interviewer, the
American people should ask why they should listen to anything he has
to say. Jimmy Carter’s presidency could be summed up by a Billy Joel
couplet: “Ayatollahs in Iran/Russians in Afghanistan.” However, this
would omit so much: “malaise,” the misery index, soaring interest
rates, a “helpless giant” foreign policy, stagflation, gas lines,
record deficits, and killer jackrabbits. The former president doesn’t
ignore his record in his book; he lies about it.
Marcus don't let you ethnicity weigh you down. This was a hate
crime. Had the room been full of a bunch of homosexual queers and the
guy said Allah Akbar the result would have been the same. The only
difference is the lamestream media would be all over this guy yelling
hate crime. No matter what you or anyone else says it was a hate
crime and since the guy never spent a day overseas couldn't have
suffered from PTSD. Not only that my guess is he wasn't teased about
his religion at all. Perhaps you find that with enlisted men but I
highly doubt you do with officers. These are generally highly
educated people career minded. I will not treat this guy with any
respect because he murdered innocent people and needs to be executed
in the next few years. He should man up like Tim McVeigh did when he
chose to be executed. McVeigh too was a thug but I respect him for
owning up, manning up and allowing himself to be executed for his sins.
What you have to understand here is that no sane human being can
excuse the killer at FT Hood for what he did...however, the social
climate he found himself in, within the military, should not be
ignored for sparking him in that direction.
My fears are that the rampant xenophobia that flourished in the
immediate aftermath of 9/11, and which seems to have toned down over
the years, will now become active again, and retribution will be
sought by various individuals and hate groups in the USA.
We Americans have a difficult time looking at ourselves in the mirror.

Carter was right about nationalistic malaise. The inability to
recognize that the USA is part of the global community, not it's
appointed leader.
Not only that my guess is he wasn't teased about

You are correct...it is your guess, and you could be guessing wrong.

Let us pray the Major recovers so he can be delivered from the USA’s
oppressive social climate that caused his mental confusion between
right and wrong, rationality and irrationality. We need to remove him
and other Muslims from this rampant, active xenophobia caused by the
Nativists, Jingoists, Sarah Palin type wingnuts, Glenn Beck type
survivalists anti-Tax Pro-life jerk-off assholes, and all other
assorted USA right wing hate groups that are capable of causing
Muslims to snap into mental confusion and go on murderous rampages.
I don’t know where you would send the Major to rescue him from this
horrible place, but I believe he did make a specific request that it
not be Afghanistan. I’m thinking of a nice, sweet garden some place
that is populated with young virgin women who would soothe the Major’s
tortured soul that has been inflicted on him by life in the USA.
It still was a hate crime. If it had been a Christian the lamestream
media would still be running with the story day and night. Instead,
this crime is being as hushed up as much as possible. My guess is to
protect our own Muslim in chief.
What a great post. You see sometimes there are some who are tuned in
correctly.
Standard knee-jerk xenophobic reaction.
What's next on your list, "send the Negroes back to Africa"?
What tiny narrow-minded world do you live in?
I've been watching TV all day, and this is virtually the only story
being covered
Just saw an interview with an Iraqi/Afghan war veteran, of the Islamic
faith, testifying his abuse at the hands of his comrades.
Just saw the commander at Ft. Hood at his press conference praise
soldiers who are Muslim under his command, and his fears that there
could be an "unfortunate" (his word, not mine) backlash against Muslim
soldiers because of this tragedy.
He read "My Pet Goat" for 20 minutes?
And also Marcus, what's ths crap you've come up with about sending
"the Negroes back to Africa"? That's a bit racist sounding to me.
