Ann M. Burke Business Owner
Ann M. Burke, 76, co-founder, director and officer of the Parvus Co. of
Silver Spring and its sister company, Jerico International of Bermuda, died
March 30, 2009, at her home in Bethesda. She had lung cancer.
Mrs. Burke started the companies with her husband in 1984. The businesses
provide security and intelligence for law firms, Fortune 500 companies and
U.S. companies overseas.
Ann Marie Burke, whose maiden name was also Burke, was a native of
Washington and graduated from the Academy of the Holy Cross in 1949. She
received a bachelor's degree in economics from the old Dunbarton College of
the Holy Cross in 1953.
During college, she briefly worked as an analyst for the FBI and Air Force
before becoming an assistant to Rep. Edna Kelly (D-N.Y.) until 1958.
Mrs. Burke lived in Silver Spring and later was a Bethesda resident.
She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Bethesda.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Gerard P. Burke of Bethesda;
three children, Gerard P. Burke Jr. of Gladwyne, Pa., Maura A. Vanderzon of
Chevy Chase and Christine M. Carr of Ridgefield, Conn.; a brother, John
Burke of Chevy Chase; a sister, Mary B. Brown of Bethesda; and nine
granddaughters.
