Dorathy was born in Ripley. She graduated from Lake Linden-Hubbell
High School and attended Michigan Technological University in
Houghton.
In 1951, she married a young Army Sergeant named Ralph Proctor (who
preceded her in death). The Proctors moved to Shadow Hills, Calif. and
later to Upland, Calif. Mrs. Proctor has resided there for over 36
years.
During her life in Upland, she was part of OPAC, a political polls
worker, and a business owner. She often made jams, jellies, canned
zucchini, relishes and other foods which she gave to the neighborhood.
She was also a talented creator of ceramic art, a hobby and business
that she loved. Some of her art creations were often sold to famous
movie stars. Before her illness, Dorathy was seen by some as the heart
and soul of the community surrounding Deborah Court and Deborah Way.
She worked behind the scenes for her community until health issues
took their toll on her mobilitly. She loved her community until the
Lord, in his infinite wisdom, called her from her labors on this
earth.
Dorathy is survived by her son, Billy Proctor; and her daughter, Kathy
Brabander.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 25, 2007,
at the Stone Funeral Home in Upland. Dorathy will be interred with her
husband in Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, Calif. on Friday,
January 26.
Stone Funeral Home, Upland, is in charge of the arrangement.
