Ramons Miezis Defense Contractor

Ramons Miezis, 78, an antenna specialist for several defense contractors,
died Nov. 14 [2009] of renal cancer at Montgomery General Hospital. He lived
in Olney.

Mr. Miezis retired in 1993 from Analytical Sciences Corp. after 15 years of
work, then consulted for 10 more years.

He was born in Riga, Latvia, and came to the United States as a young man.
He served in the U.S. Air Force in London during the Korean War, then
graduated from Johns Hopkins University. He received a master's degree in
mathematics from George Mason University in 1977 and another master's degree
in systems engineering from Virginia Tech in the mid-1980s.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Maiga Miezis of Olney; two children,
Ranta Kibbe of Laytonsville and Ronalds Miezis of Olney; and four
grandchildren.
