Right after the YANKEES bought a new team ERIK and I made a little wager, a
bottle of booze... That the RED SOX would win more games.
To F'N make a F'N long F'N sad F'N story F'N short... I F'N lost.
I took two boxes to the South Windham, MAINE post office, one to ERIK and
one to IRAQ. I always send two boxes to IRAQ, one to MIKE and one to MARK.
MIKE is due home in late December and I can't mail him a box.
I gave the clerk (I know him and his wife from church and the post
office....not no more) both boxes and 1 customs form. He asked where the
other customs form was and I said this box is going to A LOW LIFE YANKEE FAN
because I lost a bet.
He asked me what was in it.
STUPID F'N ME....
I told him there was a bottle of EAGLES RARE Bourbon, a bottle of WICKED
GOOD HOME BREW ALE, MOXIE and some scrunched up newspaper.
Clerk: Mark, you can't ship alcohol in the mail...you should know that.
Me: I didn't know, why would I tell you there was a bottle of booze in it if
it was illegal???
Clerk: Mark........?????
Me: Oh come on...it's going to an NEW YORK YANKEE FAN ASSHOLE and he earned
it....
Clerk: The post office doesn't deliver mail to assholes
Me: I beg to differ....that ASSHOLE has been getting mail for years
Clerk: Would you like to buy some stamps???
Me: Not Now
Clerk: Would you like some cash back???
Me: I just gave you $16.00
Clerk: Is there anything else the USPS can do for you???
Me: Where do I put my empties???
Clerk: What are you talking about???
Me: Didn't your boss tell you....the USPS is going to take empty bottles
back
Clerk: I knew this day was coming
Seriously...I always ask the wonderful people at the South Windham, MAINE
post office when they're gonna take back empties.
I have a really nice bottle of bourbon that I don't like and I will nevah
drink it. I have bottles of whiskey from the 1980's in my basement....now a
bottle of gin, that's another story.
Maybe I'll water down the MOXIE with the EAGLES RARE...
BUMMED OUT IN MAINE

Seems to me it has to do with the fact that the USPS cannot depend on
it's carriers to check for ID when getting signatures, if they even do
get them. And since it is possible that a minor could be signing for
it, you could find yourself in a world of hurt.
When I lose bets to people in NY, I order the hooch online from bevmo
since they know all the rules and regs about shipping.
Also, are you sure it is legal to send liquor to Iraq? When Steve was
in Kuwait I wanted to send him a bottle of champagne for him to pop
open on his 21st birthday and a friend of mine who is a colonel told
me that if I were to do so Steve could get court maritaled and I could
end up in jail.
So I just kept it in the chill chest until he got home.

Has that ASSHOLE evah lost a bet?????
Mike's 1st tour, I asked if he wanted some beer. He reminded me he wasn't
old enough and he'd go to the brig.
The kids come home and I have beer for them and they've never touched it.
Mike has had 3 birthdays in Iraq and Mark 1 and they just turned 23 on
November 14th.
Mike 20, 21 & 23 and Mark 23.
I hope STEVE is home for the holidays.
The last time I saw Mike was in Bangor when he came home from his 1st tour
in January 2007.
We are praying he will be shoveling the driveway this Christmas. My TYROPHY
WIFE needs the break.

Unfortunately Steve is still overseas. He hasn't even met his son yet.
The good news is that he will be home in late January/early February
and will be out of the service a few weeks later. Unless desperation
on the Utah job front (they cannot leave the area due to his wife
having split custody issues with the father of her first daughter)
forces him to reenlist, he will never be away from his family for
another holiday.
Not to me. But, I'm here to tell you that the UPS Store in
Baltimore will take and deliver a bottle of bourbon to any
place in the three-state area, since they have a "don't ask -
don't tell" policy stance on intoxicating beverages.
Plus, I used lots of peanuts to kill the booze smell.

This war sucks David.
Mark reenlisted a couple of months ago.
This is slowly killing us. Mike has a daughter and he was there for the
birth. His wife met someone else and he's going back to Fort Hood and we
can't get down there to greet him. He has some friends that are going to
greet him. I pray his plane lands in Bangor for a stop over. He has an
apartment lined up and a great head on his shoulders. I tell him, he's young
and he'll bounce back from this. I won't.
I have his dog and I didn't want her. She's a German Sheppard ARMY dog named
LUCY and she's been to Iraq. If we didn't take her she would have been taken
to the kennel and most likely put down. Mike called me and asked me to take
his dog. I told him we couldn't. He told me her plane is in the air. My wife
Joyce went and picked her up.
Lucy is wicked smart and an escape artist. She can open doors and open
windows with her paws. She got caught running around the neighborhood and
she has a police record. The Windham police brought her to our house and
they came back a couple of hours later and took her photo.
Lucy is the best behaved dog I've evah had. I don't have to tie her outside
and she comes when I call her. MAX takes off and always will. Mike is
transferring to Fort Sill in April and he wants her back. We want to keep
her until Mike is settled at Fort Sill. We really want to keep her forever.
Mike was going over in early January and it snowed up here and his plane
went to Ireland. I was waiting for wheels up and we were going to head for
Bangor. He called and told us to stay home.
Dan will be home from Fort Benning and Mike from Iraq this Christmas. Mark
will be in Iraq until May.
We got our first letter from Dan and he's bummed out basic training hasn't
started. He left a free home, a free car and a really nice girlfriend. I
love her, she laughs at me.
She still comes out to visit us and she's so lost.

Is there anyone here that hasn't had a bet with that ASSHOLE.
What did you bet on???

It's gotta be taxes. As a (until recently) lifelong Oregonian I know
that you can buy alcohol a lot cheaper in wheres that are else - like
California. Here in Washington the prices are about the same as they are
in Oregon. If I could legally have liquor shipped to me from out of
state, I could save a lot of money. No really - a lot.
brigid
That's the primary issue (note the state tax stamps that [are supposed
to] cover the bottle caps), however, other concerns have included
preventing the shipment of alcohol into dry states and, as noted, the
acceptance of a delivery by a minor, though those are not always
adequately addressed by extant regulations.
The alcohol shipment laws vary state by state, rather than being
consolidated under federal statute. Here's a rather comprehensive
article about the types of laws and how they apply in each state:
http://www.winespectator.com/webfeature/show/id/Shipping-Laws-State-by-State_1049
The USPS, as a national carrier, doesn't try to accommodate for all
these various laws, but simply refuses to accept and deliver alcohol.
Evidently FedEx and UPS are more flexible in this.

I think this is the best answer. Where do I vote?

You betcha. I have a picture of him holding an "I (heart) President

I am so sorry. That is terrible.

We almost did that. Apparently they use Sheppard's in training at the
USAF base in San Antonio and when they get to a certain age they give
them away. If not for the fact that our Aussie hates Sheppard's, we
would have gotten one.
