was a boy.

The names of anyone who had gotten even one vote in previous
balloting will be placed in one of those pinkish skull caps and
the identify of the next Pontiff will be drawn and known -- and,
moments later, pales of white smoke will begin soaring to Heaven.

Suppose, however, the very worst happens and, instead of picking
a name, the small white slip that's selected reads: Size 6 7/8.

and furious gun running and the A.P. scandal.
