I know we have a lot of avid readers and writers here, and I'm
looking for some help finding a special quotation to go with the
following project--
Our local battered women's shelter (I'm on the board) does a mother's
day fundraiser every year, where people have the opportunity (for a
small donation) to have a special card sent to any woman who "has
made a difference in the lives of others." Most people obviously
take this opportunity to send the card to their mothers,
grandmothers, friends, etc (it's not exclusively limited to mothers),
just the timing makes it good for MD. Every year, there is an
original piece of art selected for the cover and an accompanying
quotation. Last year, the card was an abstract flower garden
drawing, with "In Search of My mother's garden, I found my own."
(Alice Walker)
This year's artwork has already been selected-- an elegantly simple
drawing of a single yellow daffodil. But we are collectively stumped
on a quotation to go with it. Does anyone have any ideas for an
inspirational quote, relating to themes of
flowers/blooming/mothers/women/etc?

Um, no. But here are some quotes I like anyway, that are sort of semi
appropriate. <going through my quote file...>:
"If women are expected to do the same work as men, we must teach them the
same things." Plato
The greatest pleasure in life is doing what people say you cannot do.
Walter Bagehot (1826 - 1877)
I have a bunch of quotes BY women, which might be nice:
Where there is great love there are always miracles.
Willa Cather
All adventures, especially into new territory, are scary.
Sally Ride
In every outthrust headland, in every curving beach, in every grain of
sand there is the story of the earth.
Rachel Carson
Love is a fruit in season at all times, and within reach of every hand.
Mother Teresa
Love doesn't just sit there like a stone; it has to be made, like bread,
remade all the time, made new.
Ursula K. LeGuin
Whether women are better than men I cannot say -- but I can say they are
certainly no worse.
Golda Meir
Life is what we make it, always has been, always will be.
Grandma Moses
actually this one isn't bad:
Nobody sees a flower really; it is so small. We haven't time, and to see
takes time -- like to have a friend takes time.
Georgia O'Keefe
surprisingly on target:
The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain.
Dolly Parton
