Smoked Russula and noodles

Cut up a smoked Russula to eat with ramen noodles and kimchi, and a
teaspoon of mango chutney. Mixed with the bowl of noodles, the smokey
mushroom flavor became deliciously subtle.

Periodical Cicada and mushrooms?

Brood II of 17-year periodical cicadas have emerged and are out in force
in the forest around my home. Seeing the multitude of fairly large
emergence hole, presumably descending down to live tree roots, I'm
wondering if this assists in colonization by mycorrhizal fungi of the roots?

Purple Russula edible?

Finding a lot of these purple Russulas in the woods around my home.
They are good size, with a pleasantly mild acidic taste. Will try
smoking them if no one can think of a reason not to eat them.

We're currently getting some decent rain here in the mountains of
Virginia. Locally, already received over an 1", with maybe 2"+ before
it's over. Have to think this'll be a good kickoff for the coming season.

Went looking for morels in earnest today. Saw lots of people in the
forest looking, but no one found anything. Or, at least they didn't
admit to finding anything. New foliage is still pretty sparse. Just
