Monument in Custer State Park. A number of books will be available for sale,
personally autographed by Authors Peter Matthiessen, James Messerschmidt, and
Harvey Arden, editor for 23 years formerly with National Geographic. Peter
Matthiessen's "In the Spirit of Crazy Horse" is a 650-page hard cover book that
eloquently depicts Leonard Peltier's historical and controversial incarceration
stemming from the June 26, 1975 Incident at Oglala shoot-out on the Pine Ridge
Reservation.

James Messerschmidt's 'The Trial of Leonard Peltier' is an articulate portrayal
of the courtroom drama that brought Leonard Peltier to his fate and
international recognition to his case.

Harvey Arden's spellbinding "Wisdomkeepers" and "Noble Red Man" will take you
on a picturesque journey of Native spirituality and storytelling. Both of these
beautiful books are an inspiration for all ages to learn from the heart of the
Native Elder's life experience.

Leonard Peltier/ Lakota-Ojibwe

Leonard Peltier was born on the Turtle Mountain Reservation in North Dakota. In
the early 1970's the out burst of abuse on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South
Dakota summoned American Indian Movement (AIM) Members from across the globe to
come to the reservation to provide security to the residents. On June 26, 1975
a mass firefight broke out on the Jumping Bull property that resulted in the
death of two FBI Agents, Williams and Coler, and one American Indian male,
Joseph Bedell Stuntz, who is said to have died from a snipers bullet. His death
was never resolved.

While three American Indians were arrested for the shooting of the agents, two
were acquitted on self-defense in a South Dakota courtroom. Leonard Peltier was
tried in a separate court in North Dakota and found guilty of the slaying of
the agents. The charges were later changed to aiding and abetting while
insurmountable evidence in his behalf has consistently been presented to the
courts to exonerate Leonard Peltier. The political controversy lies in the fact
that Leonard Peltier has remained in a maximum security prison for 23-years to
this date for aiding and abetting….self-defense! Global politicians,
celebrities and supporters pay homage to the plight of Leonard to provide
scholarships, educational tools and computers, and to build schools and homes
for his people.

While the Leonard Peltier Charitable Foundation (LPCF) is a non-profit and
non-political organization to assist Leonard with his humanitarian interests,
the Leonard Peltier Defense Committee (LPDC) protects the legal rights of Mr.
Peltier.

Please Notice: These two organizations are separate in function, location, and
entity. The LPCF honors the man. The LPDC protects the man's honor. In the
process, we feel it is important to inform the public of Leonard Peltier's
challenges.
