When I posted this question maybe six months ago, I got back
some rumor-type comments but nothing definitive - is the
person whose sister worked for Clegg's label still out there?
Along the same lines, any tips for hunting for "Work for All"? I
have a tape of "Scatterlings" that I taped off someone's aged
demo LP and then promptly spilled Coke all over, so I need
to upgrade that too. :-) Anyone know of any plans to re-release
these two?
Desperately longing for news of the new album (and I'll take tour
rumors too - ),

I've heard on several other newsgroups that Johnny and Sipho have reunited
for a new album and tour this summer. There is a great review of a concert
that happened just YESTERDAY <eeerrrggg>. I have heard from RELIABLE
sources ((ie management and GMO executives) that the tour IS happening.
Dates have not been set.
If you are interested in more detailed info, email me. I'll send URL's and
such for further details. Or if you just want to chat with another Johnny
Clegg fan...email me. I'm thinking of starting an informal maillist. Don't
have the software to do it officially but I think we Clegg fans need to
stick together!

Lots of folks have references to him and the band(s) on personal home
pages. There are also two back issues of Rolling Stone with quite a bit of
information; the earlier one (Issue #574, Mar 22 1990) has a very
comprehensive article. #632, June 11 1992 is basically a recap, but worth
getting if you're a completist and want an update.
Our local papers (Tribune and Sun Times) had articles on the band when
they performed here; perhaps you can do a search of your own hometown
papers, either online or on microfiche at the library.
If you can find the great old Shanachie video "Rhythms of Resistance",
you'll see a few minutes of a *very* young Johnny and his friend and
teacher, Sipho Mchunu, performing in a local club. It interestingly gives
credit where much credit is due. It should still be available at
megastores like Tower or Camelot, and it's well worth the search as an
historical record of wonderful SA street music. Some mail order catalogs
may still have it, too. You can write Shanachie for a catalog at Shanachie
Records, PO Box 449, Newton, New Jersey 07860.
