So Long So Clear - Vangelis (Jon Anderson of Yes is the guest singer
on vocals)
Soulful singing, soulful synthesizers!
What about "Whiter Shade of Pale"?
Soulful is defined as:
http://www.thefreedictionary.com/soulful
"Full of or expressing deep feeling; profoundly emotional."
Using that definition, I nominate John Lennon's song "Mother." IMO
"Yer Blues" is also very soulful.
"Heart Full Of Soul" is soulful and has heart.
Here is another song that is very soulful and should have broad
appeal . . . . certainly to anyone who has/had a wonderful mother:
http://www.greatjewishmusic.com/Midifiles/Yiddishe_Mama.htm
"My Yiddishe Mama, I need her more than ever now.
My Yiddishe Mama, I'd love to kiss that wrinkled brow.
I long to hold her hands once more as in days gone by
And ask her to forgive me for things I did that made her cry.
How few were her pleasures, she never cared for fashion's styles
Her jewels and treasures, she found them in her baby's smiles
Oh, I know that I owe what I am today
To that dear little lady so old and gray
To that wonderful Yiddishe Mama of mine."
This is one I'm sure you'll love:http://www.youtube.com/watch?

Dunno what happened there. See if this works:

Vangelis? Led Zeppelin? Good god, you must be as old as I am...
You realize NO ONE listens to Led Zeppelin any longer... :))))))))
P
Here's another soulful song which IMO should appeal to anyone who has
or had the privilege of a devoted mother:
My Yiddishe Mama
My Yiddishe Mama, I need her more than ever now.
To that wonderful Yiddishe Mama of mine.
My prior post seemed to vanish. Let's see if this one goes through.
Check out my video of the song!
One of my favorite songs!
Vangelis an John Anderson were one of the most POWERFUL combinations!
Sorry dude: But there is only one. It brings me tears only when it
starts:
Yet another "Best ever" type post from you. It's like you're a music
newbie who is discovering everything for the first time and your pool
of knowledge is so small that every new thing seems to be the best
ever. Oh, and it's no surprise that a member of one of your all-time
favourite top three bands makes an appearance.
But I don't even need to check the link to know that there are
actually loads of contenders for "Most soulful" that you won't have
even heard of, never mind considered.
Great soulful singers? The most obvious are your top "soul" singers,
Otis, Aretha, Marvin - but there are loads in other areas too, Joe
Cocker for one. If I mention John Tams, you won't have a clue who I'm
talking about, but he has the most soulful voice I've ever heard
*live*.
Go and listen to Lorraine Ellison's Stay With Me - and tell me it's
not soulful (full to overflowing).
I don't think that's soulful at all.
Vangelis' best is imo:
Chariots of Fire is proabably more melodic but certainly not as
soulful.
You are living under a rock, if you think that. The young generation
is all about Zeppelin, Yes, Floyd, Sabbath, Purple, Maiden, Metallica
etc these days.
My pick is "In the Ghetto"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWg2vLEyRZc
Or Janis Joplin "Piece of My Heart".
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hCtyRMqHPXo&feature=related
Hell, nothing beats Janis' "Ball and Chain", that's powerful stuff...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2lvrIbecEs
Other good "soulful" songs...Bridge over Troubled Water, Sound of
Silence etc.
Also one pretty good soulful, as in sad, that springs to mind would be
Terry Jacks - Seasons in the Sun:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DH5R2EoN6m8
Billie Holliday, Edit Piaf etc are from different planet compared to
Vangelis... :)
You wish.
Look at my other post for some "soulful" (whatever that means) songs.
Hardly... teenagers who are into rock music (and not into hip hop) are
into these bands, rather than the one-hit wonder 99 balloons crap from
the 80s ;-)
Sorry dude, Janis cannot sing... forget about being soulful. She had
the ugliest voice in rock, next only to Neil Young.
How about "I'm An Ass Soul" by Denis Leary: http://youtu.be/2JoKJsjtLxw
Only comment that I can come up with is ROFLMAO really...
How about In the Ghetto? Elvis can't sing either?
Elvis is a great singer, one of the very best singers. What has Janis
Joplin go to do with Elvis? Did you jump on the jump-to-conclusions
mat? :-)
Hell, the song you posted sounded like a poor imitation of Queen, so
much for the soulfullness...
If you like "whiny" stuff, but much better than Vangelis, try:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spFJEIjBwFs
Or metal version of it:

Fuck, enough of that...
Effete.
Eff ete off, Rocker.

"Listen first! Hiss later!"
Here's a very very good version of a song with "soulfullness" and some
fucking balls!
You're fucking retarded you know that? Janis can't sing but Rubber
Plant can? Go die troll boy
Fuck off shitbrains
I have an idea, why don't YOU fuck off? Make another dramatic "I'm
taking my ball and going home" post and then vanish for a week,. then
creep back in with a new nym. Or have you gotten tired of doing that?
Ruhjuh is just *so* proud of displaying his innate stupidity. Cluess,
the boy is, just clueless.
Ruhjuh is too stupid to carry out the duties of a dabbawalla, let alone
understand music. Rujuh needs to shut up, leave, drop dead.
I have a son who is actually *in* the generation of which you speak,
and he doesn't listen to any of that. (E.g., a relative gave him "Dark
Side of the Moon" as a gift, and he never listened to it.) But he does
listen to a lot of rock -- it just happens to be mostly by obscure
bands from the '00s and '90s. The same is true of his friends. Classic
rock geeks and retro metalheads are a distinct minority. I'm not
saying young people with those tastes don't exist, but they are far
from defining the "young generation." The norm seems to be more like
an eclectic combination of ragged punk/indie rock, hip hop, mash-ups,
and electronica.
I highly doubt that your son represents the minority. Those teenagers
who like heavy music (and there are tons of them) are easily into the
likes of Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple etc. Most start with
Maiden/Metallica but move on.
I have a slogan just for you "Fuck off or die"
Another nameless troll...lol, they keep popping.
*the majority
Er, yes, that's my point. He probably represents the majority.
>Those teenagers
> who like heavy music (and there are tons of them) are easily into the
> likes of Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple etc. Most start with
> Maiden/Metallica but move on.
If you take up snowboarding, you'll get a better idea of what people
half your age are listening to. It ain't the stuff you're obsessed
with. There are *some* retro rockers out there; believing that they
dominate or define their generation is silly.
It WAS all crap and IS all crap... those of us who had to live through
heavy metal are still suffering the after effects... brutal anti-
music...
P
My younger daughter - who is 27 - is a fan of heavy rock. She loved
going to Ozzfest and other rock festivals to see bands from her
generation *and* mine. Her boyfriend at the time was in a metal band
called JIF (no idea). Since then she's been round the world and now
has a new boyfriend who is not such a metal freak - but she still
enjoys that stuff - Judas Priest, Sabbath, Maiden, as well as the
newer bands like Korn and System Of A Down. However, though there are
plenty of her age group at the festivals, she thinks its a only
minority that really like the older bands most. I think Sabbath are
still well thought of because of Ozzie but Deep Purple, Judas Priest,
even Zep, much less so. Sure, they're interested - but what they
listen to by choice are the bands from their own era.
complete BS!! You are talking about little Indian boys in which case
it doesn't count. you must be, because you don't hang around with
young American or English boys and it would be creepy if you did you
old Indian fag.
SITE EXAMPLES!! WHERE?? SHOW A LINK DUMBASS!!

Quiet little boy
WHAT "THOSE TEENAGERS"??? SHOW YOUR WORK!! SITE YOUR REFERENCES!!!

It is only your opinion that it is the most ever and you know what
your opinion means around here.

Exactly. The difference between "some" and "most" or "all" is crucial,
and what Raja fails to grasp.
Its true hardcore metal fans seem to like Sabbath (but not as much as
Priest, Maiden and Metallica). They don't seem to consider Zep/Purple
as metal. Hard core metal fans are also DUMBASSES.
I am just trying to work out whether that constitutes an insult to my
daughter...
Never mind. She's worth a hundred of you any day.
Don't make that link. The comment wasn't about your daughter. It was
about metal fans in general. I have many metal friends and I consider
them as dumbasses and even say that to their face (in a mocking
manner). The point being, they have listened to heavy stuff all the
time, that they cannot appreciate the beauty of anything mellower. I
like a lot of metal.... even absolutely heavy ones like Reign In
Blood, but that doesn't mean I should not like other non-heavy stuff.

I don't know if I'm familiar with this. It really sounds like a pop
tune. And that English Choir Singing Accent that makes the kids they
teach sound as if English isn't their first language doesn't float my
boat, either. But it's OK.
But "whiny"?
> Or metal version of it:
Now the interesting thing here is that it sounds like a typical tune of
this sort--which is part of what makes me wonder about the various
"nu-metal" genres. Not that this is a good example, but I also hear
some late'-80s "post-AOR" (Cutting Crew, Glass Tiger, that sort of
thing) in the songwriting. We're just supposed to accept it as METALL
because it sounds like Metallica *playing* it.
Probably the wrong word to describe it, yes.
It's a song made especially for the animated short Snowman (1982), shown
at every Christmas here. Singer is English which I think it's pretty
obvious by listening it. Shortly after, Blackmore made an instrumental
of it...and Nightwish made it's version nearly couple decades later.
Here's the Blackmore version, a long time favourite of mine:

Heavy metal was for people who didn't really appreciate musicality or
the collectivity of western music and just wanted noise to smash out
the angst laced boredom of the semi-reality they felt their lives were
destined to become... if you are under 45 and listen to heavy metal
you are just ignorant and lost (as we were) and pathetically avoiding/
uninvolved with the musical culture of your own time...
P
Are you saying that with a straight face? If you are serious, you are
truly ignorant. The tag heavy metal is meaningless. And some of the
best heavy music is not angst-laden. I can't imagine anything heavier
than the music on The Inner Mounting Flame or Bitches Brew and they
are not even technically rock. The first two songs on Relayer are
heavier, virtuosic and faster than hell and no one will ever call it
metal. Red is a freaking heavy album. Karn Evil 9 has such mayhem.
Some songs on The Piper At the Gates of Dawn and The Velvet
Underground and Nico are heavy and frenetic. A Farewell to Kings has
some of the challenging and most aggressive music ever recorded. None
of these are considered heavy metal. Heavy music is just as moody as
relaxed music.
Fortunately like you, I am not prejudiced. Depending upon my mood, I
can listen to any kind of music (if I find it good).
The best heavy metal of 2010 was "Dream Is Collapsing" from the
Inception soundtrack. The brass section consisted of six French horns,
six tenor trombones, six bass trombones, and four tubas. Now that's
*metal*! Reminds me of the old Spinal Tap band intro: "On the bass ...
on the bass ... and on lead bass ..."
Very good choice.

Just for once, I completely agree with Raja (about both of those voices).
JJ (UK)
I'm not a fan of either of these voices, but I do think there are
worse.Again, it's personal taste, but I'd rather listen to these two
than Axl Rose or (controversially?) Brian Johnson.
Brian had a good powerful voice in Black in Black, but he lost it
quite quickly. Axl can be annoying at times. But in some emotional
type songs, he sings pretty good.
I like Joplin, Young not so much. I agree, it's personal taste. Rose?
Yukk. And I don't think Johnson is that controversial a choice, I think
most hard-core AC/DC fans prefer Bon Scott.

"Raja" likes cake, "Raja" likes cookies, "Raja" likes ice cream. "Raja"
doesn't like vegetables and he won't eat them because they're ucky, he
won't, he won't, he won't.

Yep, I agree about those two as well.
Hate whiny old Axl's voice SO much.
JJ (UK)
Wrong guess. I hate all of them. *grills a rib eye steak as he types*.
Vegetables are form wimps and cookies/ice cream/candies are for
chicks.
He got worse and worse. I can stand his vocals on Appetite for
Destruction.
Tell me some heavy metal vocalist you like. I have a feeling you do
not like heavy metal at all.

A) The cake and cookies are allegorical, fanboi, they represent your
shallow, childish tastes in music in which you assume that anything you
don't understand must be bad. B) If you're really grilling and posting at
the same time that is pretty good proof that your online obsession has gone
too far; as the popular saying goes, get a life. C) What chicks like is a
total mystery to you, it's pointless for you to pretend otherwise.
