Al-Con 2002 was fantastic. Amanda and the crew outdid themselves, and
a good time was had by all. Great to see Luke Ski and Stephanie Ski
again, as well as Grant from Throwing Toasters (dag nab it, you should
fire Dirk, Musty and Timmy if they can't get their act together and
show up on time), Chris from Power Salad (great re-write of UHF for
Al-Con 3), Dan Hart, Carla Ulbrich, Larry Weaver, Tony Goldmark and
the pirates, Luke Ski's performance, "Cross Examination" with Torsoboy
and Happy Steve, the Gong Show, the lip-sync contest (Fred won with
her performance of "Fat"), etc., etc., etc. Met Tim Winslow and the
rest of the Winslow family, all of them very nice and friendly
(despite the postings from the neverfalls.com domain to the contrary).
Participated in the scavenger hunt with Whitneybelle, swapped
conversations with Blasted Bill and Tony Goldmark and the Snopes
Brothers and Susan Whelchel and Dave Rossi (and the soon-to-be Mrs.
Dave Rossi, Brittany), and sold lots of copies of Warman's American
Records - both at the Borders in Lincoln Park (saw Diva at the
signing), and at the convention as well. Had a fantastic time at the
Demented Ball, swapped a lot of e-mails and - well, there's just too
much to mention in one sitting...
And of course, seeing Bermuda and Al (and Suzanne) at the show was
fantastic. Bermuda brought video footage of the "mix-and-match"
Poughkeepsie concert (Al performing "Fat" wearing the Kurt Cobain
costume), and footage of the Albuquerque concert (where Al and the
band stalled through "Mr. Frump in the Iron Lung," "In A
Gadda-da-Vida," and "(They Long To Be) Close To You)" before belting
into the "Albuquerque" song), and footage of the photo shoot for RWS.
Great stuff.
And what did Al bring to show us all? He played the UHF DVD -
including some of the deleted scenes, and the running commentary by Al
and Jay Levey (including guest commentary appearances by Emo Phillips
and Victoria Jackson). Al and Berm then took part in an autograph
session that lasted nearly the entire night, but everybody got their
items signed, everybody who posed for a picture got one, you couldn't
go wrong.
And Sunday, Marty gave Al a ride in the Lick family DeLorean! I even
got a ride in it - It's a well-tuned car, nicely tricked out with a
digital CD surround sound system - no, Marty did not rev it up to 88
MPH and activate the flux capacitor, don't bother asking about it).
Amanda and the crew deserve a lot of support for all the work they
did, as well as do all the volunteers and support staff at the Elk
Grove Holiday Inn. I know there were a lot of people who wanted to go
to Al-Con this year but couldn't - Tera, Rob Muldoon, Eliseanns,
Laurie Seubert, Denise Criscella, Squirrelygirl, Rainbow Heron, etc. -
but we know you were here in spirit, and we hope that you will be with
us next time at the next Al-Con, whenever and wherever that may be.
Train's coming soon. Time to hop aboard. Hopefully by the end of the
week, I'll have photos uploaded and online at chuckthewriter.com.

I have never said one dispairaging word about Poohbear's *familiy*, it's
Poohbear I don't like. And on him? Every picture tells a story (and if
you're gonna start your story with a story telling lyric (from Homeward
Bound by Paul and Simon), you're gonna have to listen to MY music when I
quote it. www.weirdal.com/alcon.html (and see Poohbear's home page and
look at 'Fat's picture).

Does she like the tattoos? Does she think it's appropriate to have a tattoo
of Jon "Bermuda" Schwartz on someone she might be planning to have a baby
with?

Why aren't you still calling him "torsoboy" as you did above? And how come
Happy only shows up for CONS?

I can't wait. :-)

Duh, buy Simon and Garfunkle, of course. Simon probably wrote it though.

I'll write up a review, post pictures, and a detailed list of thanks and
hellos, another day, but I did want to piggyback on Chuck's post and say
thanks to Amanda and everyone who put their time and energy into this event.
This was definitely the best ALCON I've attended... and I attended all
three! To say "a good time was had by all" is quite an understatement!
And Chuck, thanks for the book! It gave me something to read while I was
sitting on the airplane during my two hour rain delay. :)
