not likely....

yea...who the fuck are you to say graphic design artists have no talent??
as someone who has worked in both areas (and i'll admit they do vary
somewhat) i find your comment to be not only rude as hell, but really
fucking misinformed...

I suck at all things artistic.

Thanks for the reply , you really inspired me to buy the intuos 2 4x5

Sounds like a good idea (the sharing art thing) if you like, im always in
#amt on irc... Or just email me and Ill set up a little interactive
portfolio thing... =) ... And on a last note... The intuos is already about
an inch bigger on each side (the smallest one) that零 why im not going with
the graphire.

I never said graphic designers have no talent. What I meant to say was that
graphic design does not require talent. You can learn all you need to from a
book.
Who am I to say these things? I am a professional artist with 3 degrees, 1
in fine art, 1 in animation & 1 in graphic design. Misinformed? I think not.
Qualified to say these things? Hell yes.
Student... Wait until you get to the real world. You may not agree with me
now, but you will.
well you certainly implied it
"Art takes a creative mind & talent, graphic design takes someone telling
you what they want from
you."
>What I meant to say was that graphic design does not require talent.

fair enough, but why didnt you just say that in the first place?

i stand corrected...now im really curious to know what happened to make you
so delightfully jaded...please share..

Anything that's a vision transfered from your mind to a physical source;
something you create personally, whether it be with a pencil, a computer
program, a voice... is art in my opinion. Whatever makes you feel
expressively fulfilled... *to each his own* in every way.

Get dumped by a graphic designer?
that's bullshit. are you sure you're in the real world there buddy? or are
you in the mtv version?
I can't agree with you more. Some webpages are made in such a way that they
almost put you in a certain mood. Almost every amateur webpage is just a
static background and a few pictures with a bit of text around it so I can
see how Sundiff would think that it takes no talent. But more professional
looking websites seem to be more visually appealing with different layers
laid out in certain ways that almost convey a certain emotion to you. Even
if the page is mostly one colour you tend to get a different feeling from
what that colour is. If you go to a page with a black background you get a
different feeling than if you went to a page with a green background.
You also say that someone's voice is a form of art too. I think that the
tone of someone's voice, whether they sing softly or yell at the top of
their lungs project much different emotions from eachother and put together
using a certain thought process to give an overall flow to the song is
definitely a form of art. Even if some people get different feelings from
what it is they are hearing or feeling. One person may be absolutely
repulsed by heavy metal music while someone else might find it soothing or
appealing.

I guess my being jaded stems from an inability to accomplish the kinds of
things I have set out for. I consider myself an artist first. Unfortunately
for me, I have been struggleing to support my family with the skills &
talents that I have worked so hard to cultivate. I specialize in free
lance/contract art & animation. The problem with that is that I was forced
into graphic design, something I used to say I'd never do to pay the bills
due to the fact that art & animation on a free lance basis is not a
lucrative business. In the working world, the people/companies paying for
this service have little care for how creative you are. They see their
competition's stuff & want the exact same thing, & have little care for how
creative you may be. Suits don't care about innovation, they want what
everyone else has. I remember being a graphic design student & having the
same thoughts that you probably have. The problem is that once you join
corporate America, the schackles are put on & you find yourself frustrated
trying to make a buck while sticking to your guns & artistic beliefs. That's
what I'm saying & I guess I should've elaborated more in the 1st place. I'm
not trying to stop you from being a graphic designer, I'm just attempting to
make you aware that the real world operates much differently & likely will
break your heart & make you sell out in ways you never thought possible.
Stick with it, though, maybe you'll end up being the one who changes things
for the rest of us.
If any of you have any specific questions, I'd be happy to answer them, just
email me directly.
