I Retired My Old Dual Cassette Player Today.....
The old geezer
frau bought a new flat screen TV & the old entertainment center that
housed the old Panasonic TV & all my stereo equipment has got to
go...& there is no room for my 1986 Akai HX-A301W Dual Cassette Player
with Dolby NR in the new set up. Gawd, I remember when I received it
as a gift back in 1986...25 LONG years ago...it was the most
*Fantastic* piece of audio equipment imaginable! Now if someone
wanted a GD/TR/BB/SD/FZ tape that they enjoyed while over at my place
for the evening....I didn't have to re-record the whole tape again
from the Lps...I could just pop a blank tape in & dub it....& it had
the super fast dubbing where you could record the 45 minute tape side
in 22 1/2 minutes!
One could also pop two 90 minute tapes in ...play them back to back &
have 3 Hours of uninterrupted music!!!! Much better than those Vinyl
Lps that you had to get up every 18/20 minutes & turn over...too labor
intensive!!!
But it kinda wore out over the years. The second deck wouldn't
rewind anymore....just wore out, I guess.... The last thing I remember
recording some tapes on it was around 2003 when I used up some 60
minute blanks I had to record some Van Morrison for my auto which
still has a cassette in it....
Got a cd burner in 2002 & that was pretty much the end of recording
tapes. I wanna know how many hours of my life I spent recording
tapes...sitting on a stool in front of it....switching LPs on the
turntable....or cds on the cd player.....it took two hours to record a
90 minute tape from scratch....sold most of my 400+ recorded tapes at
a garage sale back in '07 for 50 cents each.....I was surprised...a
lotta people bought 'em 'cuz a lotta people still only had cassette
playrers in their cars....
Oh, well..time marches on....in 20 years...no one will remember...or
no one will care....
I'm sure there was some other old geezer out there who, around 1962,
sold off his 78 RPM collection to a lot of different persons....& all
those old 78's are most likely rotting away in some landfill somewhere
(poisoning the Earth, for all you hand wringing sob sisters out
there........)
