Lucero - 1372 Overton Park (getting more roots rock than country, big
70s E Street Band vibe)
Reigning Sound - Breaking Up... Breaking Down (bluesy memphis garage
rock. Guitarist from Lucero plays mandolin on one song, if that gives
you any idea)
The Jam - Modern World/All Mod Cons (never was into these guys when I
was younger, felt like I was overdue to give them another chance)
Fenriz Red Planet/Nattefrost - Engangsgrill Split (FRP is like heavy
70s/80s rock, like Sabs, Pentagram, Blue Cheer, etc but really raw.
Nattefrost's side is what you'd expect)
Unearthly Trance - Trident
Autopsy - Mental Funeral +3 (filling in gaps in the collection)
Nirvana 2002 - Recordings 89-91 (early swedish DM. Just finished
reading Ekeroth's book before this came out, so it immediately caught
my eye in the new release bin. Similar to Nihilist/Dismember etc)
Merzbow - Venereology (hadn't seen this in a while, and regretted
never getting it a few years back, so I had to pick it up. Ultra
harsh noise)
Immortal - All Shall Fall (kinda boring on first listen. Same as the
last few albums but with weaker sound and songs bleh)
Slayer - World Painted Blood - (Unit 713, HAte Worldwide, Public
Display of Dismemberment and Psychopathy red are awesome. the rest is
awful to mediocre. The first song would be a lot better if it ended
halfway through, and there's another that would be awesome if it didnt
have the first 2 minutes. We established on RIB that thrash songs
should be under 3 minutes or else they get gay, why can't we follow
the rules?)
GISM - Performance of War (harsh metallic 80s japanese HC.
Discography cd)
Cobra - Greatest Hits (Japanese Oi!)
Street Dogs - Savin Hill (Boston Oi/punk. Original Dropkick Murphys
singer)
Street Dogs - Back to the World
Bristle - 30 Blasts from the Past (90s seattle hardcore punk)
Bristle - 1984450 (mid 2000s album)
What Happens Next/OvertHHHrow - Live La Vida Loca Split CD (WHN is
early 2000s bay area bandana thrash a la BGK, Larm, Heresy.
OvertHHHrow is late 80s crossover from spain with dudes from HHH)
Clusterfux - Thrash Mongrel (hardcore punk from colorado)
Sheer Terror - Drop Dead and Go To Hell (NYHC live recording from
1997)
One Life Crew - American Justice (OTT reactionary straight edge
hardcore from the 90s plus awful rap songs)
Pitboss 2000 - All the Hits (OLC side project ratcheting up the
militant straight edge and ignorant hatred angles. Absolutely
hilarious)
I`m a huge fan of The Jam although This is the Modern World isn`t very good.
All Mod Cons was the start point for the band really although I guess you
may find more to like in those first 2 punky albums. Setting Sons, their 4th
album, is one of my favourite non metal releases of all time.

I suspected you`d be less than impressed with these two. Although I don`t
share your ambivalence I must say both have dropped off my playlist quicker
than I first expected.
You're correct. I definitely like Modern World more than AMC off the
bat.

I *REALLY LIKE* the songs on the slayer I like, and theres some others
I wouldn't skip, even if I could reach the button ;) The immortal
has only gotten one listen, but I was just struck by how it sounded
like a watered down version of the last 3 albums. Hopefully when I
get to work it in again, it makes a better impression

I find their first 2 punky albums pretty run of the mill but when Wellar
started experimenting they turned into an amazing band. I`m not sure you`d
like the last couple of albums at all.

The new Immortal very much picks up where the last few left off. If I had a
criticism of it I`d say there`s no one song on it that really sticks out or
anything but the whole thing is just damn solid. If you`re looking for the
short sharp blast beat attacks of their early albums though I can see why
you would be disappointed.
My last few days...
Blut Aus Nord - I`ve been going through their back catalogue after enjoying
the new release so much and remembered why I drifted away from them. The
first few albums are fantastic...The Work Which Transforms God is then OK
and then it all goes wrong until the new one.
Drudkh - Microcosmos - another band I`ve been playing a lot lately.
Emperor - In the Nightside Eclipse
The Cure - 4:13 Dream
Carter USM - Post Historic Monsters - just seen this band play their first 4
albums over 2 nights. Can`t imagine anyone in here liking them at all
though!
Lawnmower Deth - various bits and bobs
Megadeth - Endgame - keep coming back to this
Ulver - Nattens Madrigal
Funeral Mist - Marantha
Marduk - Rom 5:12
Hate Forest - Battlefields - had never heard this before, didn`t think it
was anything special.
Hypocrisy - A Taste of Extreme Divinity
Deicide - Serpents of the Light
Muse - The Resistance - a mate played this in the car, always liked the band
but never been crazy about them.

The Immortal fell off the play list fast, but then I have an excuse.
I was in the hospital for 5 days ffs. I will get to it for more
listens. As of yet, I haven't heard the Slayer.
Tom
> Megadeth - Endgame - keep coming back to this
I think I am at about 5 listens. I haven't had the time of late to
get the listens in to much. Or if not time, desire to hear certain
stuff. I will get to it this week for sure.
Tom
Still regularly spinning the Immortal and Slayer. Loving both. At
the moment the Immortal is a top 5 contender and the Slayer a top 10.
I am more than thankful that Immortal have picked up from where they
off, none of that necro bullshit.

I lilke all of Immortal`s albums although probably lean towards the latter
stuff as a preference. Both of those albums ( Immortal, Slayer ) will make
my top 10, they`ve probably fallen off of my playlist because so much stuff
has come out lately. I haven`t even heard the new Gama Bomb yet.
I didn't even go there (early vs later immortal). I'm saying it's a
much poorer attempt at what they did fantasticallyl on AtHoW and not
quite as well (but to tons of acclaim) on SoND. Worse than Damned in
Black, easily the worst of album of the "new" immortal sound. Abbath
shoulda stuck to I
I was going to listen to Immortal today, but went with Megadeth
instead.
Tom
While I liked I, I still prefer the new Immortal to it. SoND is still
my favourite Immortal album, but All Shall Fall is up there with what
I regard as their best.

Do I detect a list opportunity?

Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism

So we've basically got a consensus that AtHoW rules while BitN and DiB
kinda suck? Obviously you and ian don't like the rawness of the
debut ;) But what's up with ian's love for Blizzard Beasts?
It was the first Immortal album I ever heard so I guess I have a soft spot
for it. To me it`s abit of a halfway house between the early and later
style. I don`t think any Immortal albums suck although DiB is easily the
worst.

I don't think I could slot the new album already. I'd have to have a
couple months. That is, providing I'd heard all of Immortal's albums.
Which I have not.
Tom
i agree with Tom, AsF needs more plays for me as well. PH and BitN
could flip flop at any time. as Soze said, there is no bad Immortal
cd.
