Ok, I think Ian's going to love this, pick the songs from across their
entire career that you think should be on a best of album. I've picked
22 tracks, i think we should all aim for roughly the same number give
or take a couple.

Evil has No Boundaries
Antichrist
Black Magic
Chemical Warfare
Haunting the Chapel
Hell Awaits
Necrophiliac
Angel of Death
Necrophobic
Post Mortem
Raining Blood
South of Heaven
Silent Scream
Mandatory Suicide
Ghosts of War
War Ensemble
Hallowed Point
Seasons In The Abyss
Sex, Murder, Art
Dittohead
Bitter Peace
Flesh Storm

I wouldn`t argue with much of your list to be honest. If I were picking one
for general release I`d probably pick stuff like Dead Skin Mask and
Mandatory Suicide as they seem to be real popular but if it`s purely for
me...

The Antichrist
Black Magic
Fight till Death

Chemical Warfare
Haunting the Chapel
Hell Awaits

At Dawn they Sleep
Necrophilliac
Angel of Death
Altar of Sacrifice
Jesus Saves
Reborn

Post Mortem
Raining Blood
South of Heaven

Live Undead

Ghosts of War
War Ensemble

Spirits in Black
Born of Fire
Dittohead
Fleshstorm

I`d like to have a few more recent songs but I was already up to 20 and
didn`t want to leave any of the others out!! I`d bung in Circle of Beliefs,
Bitter Peace and Cult if possible.

Well ok, if I drop Bitter Peace and Sex, Murder, Art then that's 20 on
mine too, so if everyone else could try and do it with 20 songs.

Personally I would ignore everything after Seasons, even though I love
DI, the stuff previous is just so much better. For my list just pick
20 random tracks from SNM, HA, RiB and SitA.

I'd probably go that way as well. Although I might have one or two
off of SoH. Maybe not so random in the picks though.

I know it's fairly heretical to say but SitA is my second fav Slayer

with, apart from the odd track.

I think SOH has some very very good tracks...SoH, Silent Scream,
Ghosts of War and Behind The Crooked Cross, but it also has some
rubbish, Spill the Blood, Live Undead (sorry Ian, just don't like it),
and Dissident Aggressor (which is not a patch on the original).

SOH's biggest challenge is that it followed the most important thrash
album of all time. There is nothing Slayer could have done that would
not have been disappointing.

The album has aged very well however, IMO, full of cast iron classics
(yes even Mandatory Suicide!).

SITA has aged poorly IMO and is the second worst Slayer album.

I donno if SITA is the 2nd worse, but it's EASILY the worst by the
"original slayer". I completely agree about SOH however. Has aged
tremendously.

Live Undead is my favourite track on the album...apart from possibly the
title track. I was really disappointed with it when it came out and a part
of me still is...but I did grow to love it. I think the album withers
away...the DA cover isn`t very good and Spill the Blood is an anti-climatic
closer.

Pure madness, GHUA, CI, DiM are far worse. Anyway all that ageing

I like SiTA less every time I hear it, so the "aging badly" comment is
pretty spot on. I even made sure to put in the usenet-friendly IMO
just for you ;)

And I think the only album worse than SITA is GHUA. I like DiM *much*
better (yes, even though half the album is shit). CI is better overall
IMO although War Ensemble kicks the entire album's ass.

I prefer DI to Seasons, possibly one of the most under-rated albums in the

completely death metalled up so didn`t listen to it a great deal. If
anything I warmed to it more with time after going back to it after a couple

guitars need bringing up in SoH and I think Seasons could sound punchier

unless you define "what they do" as "playing old slayer songs" and not
"playing thrash metal" they haven't been the best at what they do in
about 20 years. Kreator is hands down the best band at "playing
thrash metal" in the 2000s, and I'd venture that Testament (and
probably a few others) were doing more interesting stuff than slayer
in the 90s (although the 90s were a rough decade for thrash purists)

I`d agree on Kreator although the new Slayer album is damn good. Testament
did make the godly `The Gathering` in the 90`s but also `The Ritual` which
is worse than any Slayer album and none of their other 90`s albums are a
patch on Divine Intervention. It`s difficult to pick a thrash band that
didn`t falter in the 90`s...even the ones that didn`t totally sell out (
such as Sodom or Overkill ) weren`t making particularly good albums.
