Hey I was just wondering what you all think about usenet's overall long
term viability. Usenet is of course booming as a depository for
binaries, it's where I do a good 95% of my downloading from. But what
about it's original use? Which is of course is a discussion forum in
newsgroups such as this one. When I started on usenet back in 95 or so I
participated and read about 12 or so groups a day now I'm down to only
two for discussion. As the other 10 I used to be active in have
completely died, sure they're still on the usenet server but only get
spam messages nowadays. If usenet is dying what's a good forum site for
reasonably intelligent discussion for metal? I've found some decent
forum sites for other topics but on every metal site I see the posters
all seem like they're about 7 years old. Also you kids get off my lawn
with your new fangled gadgets and such!

Usenet has been dead for some time, almost everyone on it is over 30, web
forums have destroyed it. I find the Bloodstock festival forums pretty
decent and Metalreview.com is definately worth a look.

In a word. Yes. It's dead and buried. Look how many people post
anything to speak of. Look at the 12 groups that you used to look at.

Dead, deadski. I much prefer these ngs to facebook but I guess more and
more people have the voyeuristic sense going and want to know what
everyone is doing at every moment. Or worse yet, they think that what
they are doing is the most important thing in everyone's life.

Thanks I'll check em out, I'll never forget when I first found usenet on
aol back in I think it was 95. I don't think aol even offers access to
usenet anymore and a LOT of isps have dropped access to it the past few
years because the copyright holders want them to dump it. Of course they
claim it was because you can find kiddie porn on usenet but of course
that's just a dumbass smokescreen that they use to justify all sorts of
things.

I never got into social networking just never cared for it I have a
myspace account but there's no intelligent discussion on it, also
everyone who's on my list are people I know in real life anyway or bands
I like. I'm definitely not going to join facebook or start tweeting fuck
that.
