Anyone else liking the new Nile album: Those Whom the Gods Detest?

I've been spinning it this weekend and it seems to be their best work since
ITDS.

What do you guys think?

Bought it on a whim when I picked up the new slayer...gonna sell it back as
used. Not my bag, which I knew, but I thought I'd try it.

Oh, I wouldn't sell the Nile CD I have, because you just can't get
much money out of it. I plan on hearing it again sometime.

Bored with it, but I am just bored with the Egyptian theme. Musically
it's okay until the eastern influences start to appear and it's just
starts to grate.

If they continue with the theme I can't see me buying any more of
their cd's.

Shame really.

Middle eastern traditional music is among my favorite in the world,
but gimmick bands like Nile bore the living fuck out of me.

we get it, already!

I tolerated those influences to begin with as the death metal was in a
word phenomenal. When they first appeared they kicked DM's ass all
over, but now it just gets tiresome. However they won't change their
theme, because they can't. So each and every release just gets worse.

I find them less repetitive than any other death metal band to be honest.
The new album is definately my favourite death metal release of the
year....although the competition is thin ( the only other 2 I`ve played a
lot have been Augury and Obscura ). I wouldn`t really want Nile to undergo a
radical shift in style...although I guess I find it odd to write this as 2
months ago I`d probably have agreed ( I barely played the last ) but this
new album has completely kicked my ass. Say what you will about them
becoming tiresome but I`ll take this over new releases by Obituary,
Suffocation, Napalm Death, Behemoth, Pestilence or Vader. I have to say this
newsgroup is the only place I`ve seen an overtly negative reaction to the
new Nile. Or indeed a negative reaction at all!

*as an addendum to that I forgot Ulcerate`s awesome `Everything is Fire`
album plus there`s been some really good melodic death metal such as
Hypocrisy, God Dethroned, Centaurus-A and Woe of Tyrants. But I`d still take
the new Nile above all of them. Are Anaal Nathrakh death metal....or just
noisy bastard metal? Either way their new album is genius.

I would add the Necrophobic, Aeon of Horus, Be Lakor, Insomnium and
Cormorant (Their Scavengers Feast is the catchiest song I have heard
all year).

I still haven`t given that Cormorant a proper listen yet although I did like
it. Been in a bit if a black metal mood of late for the first time in a
while. I`m still not sold on that gloomy Insomnium / Belakor stuff although
it`s OK. Don`t think I`ve heard Aeon of Horus....Necrophobic are pretty
decent.

The latest Insomnium is far more upbeat than their previous releases.
The Be Lakor is more in-line with Insomnium's older work. Check out
the Aeon of Horus, it's a cracking release, as is Necrophobic.

Yeah, that's the problem. It's all pasted on theme and no real
influence.

Over new Napalm? Not me...

I only played the new Napalm once, there was nothing wrong with it but it`s
just exactly the same as their last 4 or 5 releases. I know people level the
same criticism against Nile but I just find what Nile do far more
interesting than what Napalm do.
