Did Ged play a Fender or a Rickenbacker during the making of Moving
Pictures? In the sleeve the picture looks like he's holding a Fender.

Fender Jazz Bass, the same one he's been using on recent records and the
some one that the Geddy Lee signature model is, um, modeled after.

(I think I read somewhere that every song on that record except for Red
Barchetta was recorded with the Fender Jazz.)

I'm not sure what he used on the record, but on that tour he played the
Rickenbacker. Watch the "Exit Stage Left" video and you'll see what I mean.

I distinctly remember reading a Les Claypool interview a few years ago where
he talks about how he asked Geddy about the bass he used for MP and Geddy
said it was the Fender and that he still has it and offered to sell it to
Les.

I don't know if Les bought it, but if he didn't he is a fool. :-)

Isn't he playing a Fender Jazz Bass in the "Vital Signs" promo at Le
Studio?

I don't know but I thought I saw a picture of them in the studio during
the making of Moving Pictures and Ged was holding a Rick. But then in
the album sleeve he's holding a Fender.

1. He did use the Rick some on MP, as noted earlier.

2. There are such things as "publicity photos" that entail setting up
situations just for looks.
