A while ago I noticed that a cassette tape in my local library had a
song called "The Look" on it. Could this be the song that I'd been
desperate to know the creators of for so long? Well, yep, I finally
found out that it was Roxette who had created "The Look", but
encountered a rather odd phenomenon immediately afterwards.

On the first side of the tape (a copy of Look Sharp), after "The
Look", and IIRC midway through "Dressed for Success", the music became
extremely odd. Examining the tape, I noticed that someone seemed to
have unscrewed it, put a twist in it, and then put the whole thing
back together - so that, after the twist, I was listening to it with
the tape in the cassette upside-down!

Why would anyone want to do that? Well, I remembered what a former
teacher had told me - apparently this was how you played a cassette
tape backwards - unscrew it, turn the tape inside over by twisting it
somewhere, put it back together, and playing Side 1 normally means
you're playing (Side 2 - I THINK) backwards.

However, I've never heard of any strange theories involving playing
copies of "Look Sharp" backwards, so I have no idea what this person's
motivation would have been. So, if anyone knows of any conspiracy
theory the tape-saboteur could have been following up on, or of any
other reason for the twisted tape (and whether or not it does result
in a play-backwards of the opposite side), I'd be very interested to
hear about them.

Well, I'm off to feed the ducks with a bun and watch them bringing joy
to everyone,

James McLaughlin.
