I've been listening to Rammstein's Amerika single and the English
version lyrics are completely different than the translation of the
original German version.
In the original German version they sing:
"Wenn getanzt wird will ich führen auch wenn ihr euch alleine dreht
Lasst euch ein wenig kontrollieren Ich zeige euch wie es richtig geht"
Which translates to:
"When there's dancing I want to lead even if you're whirling around
alone, Let yourselves be controlled a little, I'll show you how it
really goes."
In the English version, they sing
"Do you want me, no I don't, Do you need me, no I don't, Dance with me
I'm leaving, no I can't Will you love me, no I won't"
Which is not even close to the German lyrics translation.
So the English version on the Amerika single is purposly completely
different lyrics from the original German version or is the translation
of the original German version wrong?
I don't speak German although I am half German so is there anybody that
speaks German that can translate the song or tell me if the lyrics from
http://herzeleid.com/en/lyrics/reise_reise/amerika are correct?
Or do the lyrics really matter? I live in America so I'm not sure why
Rammstein sings "we're living in Amerika"? Is the American influence
that great in the rest of the world? Don't get me wrong, I love the song.

Unfortunately, I don't have any of their singles (apart from Ich Will), only
the albums. I've never even heard the English version as yet, but have it
on order. I have noticed that other songs which have Engish versions also
seem to be very different to the German versions as well, and I like to
think of them as just that ... they are not translations, but a completely
different version of the song.
To answer your last question, and without wishing to offend Americans
anywhere, yes I'd say the American influence is spreading and is not taken
very well by some people. At least here in the UK I know of several folks
who worry that people around the world are losing their culture in "favour"
of a much more westernised way of life so that eventually we will all be
living in an Americanised world, and this is dryly illustrated in
Rammstein's Amerika video where they show Masaai warriors eating boxed pizza
and buddhists eating McDonalds burgers. This is not necessarily my opinion,
I might add. Cultures have been swallowed by other cultures time and time
again throughout history, and all that's happened is that something new as
emerged.

Are English CDs a different format than American CDs? As I was asking
this I went to my two local mail order resources stateside and neither
has the single. I got mine that way but I guess it's no longer
available? I did find this reference:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amerika_%28song%29
Seems as though it's hard to say what Rammstein is saying? Not
globalization, it's cocacolonization. Now that's funny!
I'm only seen the Amerika video on Youtube, be cool to see it on a tv
screen. Maybe their next DVD will have that?

No, they're not, they're identical. I've bought CDs in the USA and brought
them home and the only difference is in the cover.
I ordered the Amerika single from the Rammstein Shop along with some clothes
to keep the price of postage down. It contains the English version of
Amerika, although it appears that the US Rammstein store
(http://www.rammsteinshop.com/) doesn't have it.

Quite a good article, I think.

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed ... although I have already bought the
video from iTunes.
