"DEMOCRACY!"
an international group exhibition
at Royal College of Art, London, England, UK
Opening: April 13th, 2000
Exhibit: April 13 - May 13, 2000

On April 13th, the Royal College of Art in London will host the TATE
WIKIKUWA MUSEUM, integrated in the exhibition: DEMOCRACY!

TATE WIKIKUWA is the title of a traveling exhibition featuring artwork
by Mr. Leonard Peltier. The title means "Wind Chases the Sun," and it
is Mr. Peltier's given name in his native Lakota language. This exhibit,
conceived by San Francisco-based artist Rigo 00, features a series of
original oil paintings that Mr. Peltier has accomplished while incarcerated.
It also shows us a replica of the type of cell to which Mr. Peltier remains
forcibly confined, in Leavenworth, Kansas.

"DEMOCRACY! marks the first time Mr. Peltier's paintings, executed within
the barbed wire walls of a United States Maximum Security Prison, will
be available to the British public.

Leonard Peltier, considered by Amnesty International to be a political
prisoner who should be immediately and unconditionally released, was
convicted in 1977 for the murders of two FBI agents. After being faced
with formerly withheld evidence on appeal, serious doubt has been cast
on Mr. Peltier's guilt, and the prosecution admitted that it could not
prove who actually shot the agents or what participation Mr. Peltier
may have had in their deaths.

Mr. Peltier's case has won the support of some of the world's most
prestigious
organizations and individuals. The European Parliament; Amnesty
International;
The International Commission of Jurists; The Dalai Lama; Archbishop Desmond
Tutu; Rigoberta Menchu, just to name a very few from a list millions
long.

Mr. Peltier's due date for release is 2041.
Mr. Peltier will be reviewed for parole on June 12, 2000.

In his recently published book "Prison Writings, My Life is My Sundance"
Mr. Leonard Peltier writes: "American Indians share a history rich in
diversity, integrity, culture and tradition. It is also rich in tragedy,
deceit and genocide. As the world learns of these atrocities and cries
out for justice for ALL people everywhere, no human being should ever
have to fear for his or her life because of their political or religious
beliefs. We are in this together, my friends, the rich, the poor, the
red, white, black, brown and yellow. We share responsibility for Mother
Earth and those who live and breathe upon her."

It's the Year 2000, Why is Leonard Peltier Still in Prison?
