sweet jesus you guys. feel free to contribute your own list. im catering to the
lowest common denominator here. dont you ppl *like* anything? i swear to god
(odin, yahweh, buddha, alah, the goddess, bog, whatever) you guys are sucking
the life right out of me. give me some insight. fucking enlighten me ppl. what
hand do you wipe your ass with? i dont give a fuck, but its a lot more thought
provoking than wondering where the hell i can find rh's equipment list for the
1 kagillionth time. hasnt anyone had one single idea lately??

most of us... *some* of us.. come here with similar interests, similar
outlooks, similar ideas. but we waste this place as a forum for sharing shit
like that. relevant rh discussion is at an all time low. its shameful. this is
the most dispassionate lot of ppl ive ever seen... -- aside: so im watching
vh-1's the list. and cece whats-his-name from like poison or something is going
off on this story about tina turner and how she inspired him to get a guitar.
and he's out of his seat jumping around like . and the only thing i can think
of is "thank mother-fucking tina for poison!" just cos this guy was so
passionate about her. and you know what she got?? well, she got 2nd. but thats
not the point. -- ...i dont even know where to start anymore. maybe im on the
wrong track as everyone else, and im just missing the point. but there used to
be a lot more to this place. anyone read a good book? bought a good cd lately?
(big ups to 20cb for her goosepimply PA bit; and karm, feel free to elaborate
more on those cd's).

bought a new cd that gives you a boner?? been inspired by a rh song to light
your car on fire?? been to a concert and thrown your panties onstage? im not
saying this should be one big tangent, but none of you see this as an
opportunity to share some of the stuff that has brought us here. the passion
for rh. and good music. and shit that makes us think. everyone here has at
least something to share that can be passed on to someone else. to inspire
someone to by a cd, listen to a song with earphones for a change, read a book,
watch a film.
you guys inspire me stick my thumb up my ass for a good half hour.

yeah, i know. this alt.music.RADIOHEAD. but does it have to be?? do we *have*
to discuss over and over if karma police sounds like sexie sadie? what the
computer says in paranoid android?? why cant we start with rh, and build on
that?

ok that's my "lucy_potato."

and yeah, i know randy. bitter bitter bitter.

okay. I am mad for B & S... I love the lyrics.. and the singing. I wish
I had made this album.. it is is also kind of simon & garfunkelish.

I am debating if I should put the holy bible on for the second time.

If I had that option.. if I had my own car..

lol.. can you imagine doing that at an RH concert.. could you imagine
the look on thom's face.. I would just do it to see their reaction.

top 10/100/1000 lists are the most annoying,
pointless, useless, unthoughtprovoking material
ever devised.

tell me WHY you like these songs/bands
and maybe I'll care, but what good does a
list do anyone? it is hardly enlightening!

if you recall the intent of the post was to cater to the lowest common
denominator. i felt maybe something more simple would catch on.

>tell me WHY you like these songs/bands

cos the idea isnt just to list off random nouns or objects. the idea is to list
off things that you're passionate about. or something that just inspires you
enough to at least mention it in one sentence or less. a small list tells me
more about what drives you ppl than your 2 dimensional criticism.

well... i like the old black grape album, it's great when you're
straight... yeah! and i think shaun ryder is a genius.

i mean:

"old pope he told the nazis to clean up their messes/ in exchange for
gold and paintings he gave them new addresses"

"my father's father's father by nature he was bendy/ we are the tea-time
trube and we are over-friendly"

"gather round some nice black people, while i deliver this message"

"you don't do what i do / and i don't do what you do / but you should do
/ well you got your voodoo / but you got no clue / you know me / say
pongo poo poo for me"

everybody should buy this album. really.

what about on the radiohead site then, too? anyone seen the world trade
orgy things? i don't buy it. i surfed all those sites trying to find out
stuff, and, i dunno, it definitely seems dodgy, but they didn't do much
explaining. they talked about bad stuff the wto has done but there
arguments seemed extremely dogmatic. i'm still trying to find out some
decent stuff on that organisation. i want to know how it's run... and
how it can be undemocratic if the officials are appointed by our elected
governments, and what specifically is going wrong... can anyone help?

i have a list then

1.why.

ok thats all.

not really a list then really ?

ok 'll try again...
10. Why do things move in circles?
9. Is there some master language that all was drawn from? how could things just
be created, without names? some sort of name...hmm...... nevermind.
8. Is there ever a true escape from things? most escapes are tempary...death
doestn count as a true escape either, i dont think.
7. Why is everyone hypocritical? is it because we have become so complex that
it is impossible not to contridict ourselves?
6. love love love..why why why!
is there a point?
5." WE DONT WANT YOUR FUCKING LOVE" i used to hate this song but now its
lovely!
4.Why are people drawn to simpler music? it seems like people dont want to
mature or to learn anymore. maybe it all sticks with wanting to stay young
forever?
3. when i wonder about "do we really matter", i get stuck up on if i am
thikning about the big picture or the small picture. are they the same? does
everything we do indirectly affect everything? thats a scary thought.
2. Numbers and infinity..i think about infinity the most these days.... numbers
(IE:1,2,3,etc.) just represent objects... (IE. 1chair,2chairs,3chairs,etc.) so
infinity doesnt EXIST out there.... we can write it on paper (oo), but it
doesnt mean anything in real life. or am i wrong? hmm..
and 1.

is life this bad for everyone?

it is actually an undefined term. it's not considered an actual real

sure death counts, in death we escape the bounds of time

the egocentrism of man, to think he suffers more than anybody else. we only seem to
dwell on the negative perhaps to use it as a crutch or an excuse, but things are
better than you think they are and they could always be worse and it's not like you
can't change your current situation if you really wanted to.

everbody talks about being happy or tries so hard to convince others that they're
happy rather than actually attempting to be happy. and watch some tv it'll tell you

i don't see why this is trendy. most people have never heard of them. it's
not like everyone is running out to get a belle and sebastian album like they
run out and get a backstreet boys one. i mean, going out and buying a record
highly recommended by a lot of people is one thing, while going out and getting
something just because you feel like you have to have it to be cool is another.
i really only see the former going on.

i'd say simon and garfunkel is just as trendy, if not more so than b&s, just
because simon et. all is associated with folky, laid back people...and if you
want to be that kind of person, you gotta have some of that in your cd stash.
i don't really see having tigermilk as being associated with anything, except
perhaps taste in music.

yeah!

I got tiger milk recently cause I saw a B&S video and I really liked
what I was hearing.. and I read some really good reviews on it, and
people reccommended to me...

I got Simon and Garfunkel a long time ago cause I like them..and someone
made me a mix tape with them on it, and people made fun of me when I
got it (my sis) like it was nerdy!

the entropy (disorder) of the universe is always increasing. the entropy
of the universe is equal to the entropy of a set system and its
surroundings. so we can set the system to be..your room. and if you
clean up your room, you're decreasing the disorder of it, and therefore
increasing the disorder somewhere outside the system and outside your
room.

the system doesn't have to be closed..

well i can go bloody take my physics final now.

er..wait...i don't have one.

but anyhow, my physics teacher in high school used the whole bedroom example
too. i'd forgotten what entropy actually was, but i do know that everytime i
see a messy room i think "entropy!"

he told us that when our parents yelled at us for not cleaning our rooms we
should all be like "mom! it's not my fault! it's entropy!!!"

actually...
if i cleaned my room, i'm not increasing the disorder elsewhere, but
actually in my room, the system. it is rationalized in most texts as so:
food has to be metabolized in order to do the work of cleaning my room.
this process(the cleaning and metabolizing)is exothermic, releasing heat
into the surroundings, hence, the entropy within my room is increased.
second law of thermodynamics insists that the increase of the entropy of
surroundings must be greater than the decrease of the entropy of the system.
all that and all i wanted to do was clean my stupid room.
secondly...
there's an exception to the second law that applies to a closed, or isolated
system. it says that in an isolated system any process that occurs, leaves
the surroundings unchanged. for example, you have gas inside a 2L glass
tube. the gas is compressed into half of that, the gas then expands into
the whole 2L tube. this process didnt affect its surroundings to any
measurable extent (love that term). the gas is said to be a closed or
isolated system.

ok now before everyone gangs up on me, i'm only an undergraduate chemE major
so my knowledge is somewhat limited. i didnt mean anyone any insult by
this. and let me see, i dont care what the guy in the just video said, and,
umm, i dont have anything positive to say about oasis. there i think i
covered my arse pretty good.

your room isn't a completely shut-off closed system, so this actually
doesn't have any relevance to what we're talking about.

actually, now that i go back and read your post again, your explanation
isn't even largely correct. for one thing, it's confusingly worded. at
one point, you're calling the room a closed system, and then you're
saying that your body heat is released into the surroundings, which
would increase the entropy of the surroundings. you're working with 2
different systems here.

but don't mind me, i'm just a first-year undergrad student with an
undecided major. pff.

Yeah, I think you're explanation is largely correct; however, when I was
referring to the "room," I meant the objects being ordered and not the
air in the room that is being heated (because I was not ordering the air
in the room to begin with). Thus, the system referred to only the
objects in the room, and the entropy of them was decreasing. The
surroundings, which included the air, was increasing. This explanation,
I think, makes a little more sense because my room is by no means a
closed container, and the air that I heated with my body would dissipate
into the atmosphere (which I would definitely term "the surroundings")
and increase its entropy.

you ARE, in fact, assuming that your room is a closed system if the heat
released from your body is contributing only to the entropy of your
room, and not outside your room. you set the room as your 'system':

> > if i cleaned my room, i'm not increasing the disorder elsewhere, but
> > actually in my room, the system.

if you're talking about yoru body being the system, and your room being
the surroundings, then the entropy of the room is increased. However,
since the room isn't a closed system, the entropy of the universe is
increased as well. the only way your argument works is if you refer to
the room as a completely closed system, and you just said it wasn't what
you meant. so what are you trying to say?

ok, here goes. let this be the nail in the coffin, i hope.:) ok let me
redefine everything, and this is what i set out to do, i think i confused
myself in the beginning:
desk=system
me=surroundings
air around me=surroundings
room=makeshift universe.
i straighten up the desk and the entropy (of my desk) decreases, but as i
straighten up the desk i make and release heat. the second law states that
if entropy decreases in in a system, the entropy of the surroundings must be
greater, so that the change in entropy of the universe is always greater
than 0. er umm, i think thats it?

Was this because of my post? Until a few years ago, I never knew enough to
change my toothbrush after I was sick. Now, I change my toothbrush about
every three months (what dentists say). Teeth need looking after. They are
definitely high maintenance items. Sometimes I just want to go to bed, but
oh damn, I haven't brushed my teeth yet.

Change is scary, but for me, I usually pick different colours. If I'm on
pink now, it'll be blue next and so on....

Oh, don't brush too hard; it isn't necessary and it ruins the gums (advice I
got when I used to be able to afford a dentist).

I think you talking about toothbrushes reminded me that I had had the same one
forever.

I used to do that, but my new one is the same as the old one: white with red
on it.

simpler music is easier to enjoy. you can witness this phenomenon in
newspapers. they always do pyramid stories. they have a headline, a
summary and then the proper article. all of this is so that when you
lose interest you can stop reading without losing continuity. you know
what's going on at a glance. with simple music, instead of taking fifty
listens to enjoy something, you can get into it in fifty seconds. and
then it becomes a standard genre, and then there's no way out. the radio
stations aren't going to play anything much longer than 3 minutes,
because people won't mind a 3 min song they don't like. they will mind a
15 min song they don't like.

ultimately, simple songs are easier for the mind and for the media to
digest, so they end up more popular.

plus, most people don't actually like music all that much anyway. they
aren't going to bother with something difficult. they'd rather carry on
using it as a social badge, thanks very much.

he was right and i was wrong, saying not to gang up on him because he's
"only an undergraduate cheme major." that was just lame. he doesn't
understand what he was talking about, but it made me look stupid so i
had to explain entropy how it fuckin is, OK??? it's not about arrogance
or pedanticism. sheesh.

Here's a little article in Toronto's 'Now'. The beginning part is more
relevant to your post while the second half is more about the writer's
personal experiences.

http://www.now.com/issues/current/News/feature.html

Democracy? I'm not sure if we are entirely a democracy. In Ontario there are
talks of changing universal health care to a two tiered system. Many people
are against this, but it is slowly being ploughed through. There are
problems with the system as it is now, like waiting lists and such, but at
least there is a waiting list. Though I must admit, people are to blame.
Many (not myself) want tax cuts and in order to fund this promised tax cuts
they have to take funds from somewhere and that is health care, education
and so on. If people had to choose between universal health care and tax
cuts, I think that the universal health care would get more support.
Problem: the direct relationship between the tax cuts and health care is not
discussed. Why? Because people like 'his lord' fucking majesty Conrad Black
controls much of the media. The self-interest of a small percentage of
people is taking precedence over the rest of society. If you are so inclined
check out the 'greying and greedy' post about the boomer's hold over the
rest of us.
