you ARE, in fact, assuming that your room is a closed system if the heat released from your body is contributing only to the entropy of your room, and not outside your room. you set the room as your 'system':
> > if i cleaned my room, i'm not increasing the disorder elsewhere, but > > actually in my room, the system.
if you're talking about yoru body being the system, and your room being the surroundings, then the entropy of the room is increased. However, since the room isn't a closed system, the entropy of the universe is increased as well. the only way your argument works is if you refer to the room as a completely closed system, and you just said it wasn't what you meant. so what are you trying to say?

Alright, I get the picture. I haven't been fulfilling my radcon pledge very well lately. I have to rethink this whole Lucy Potato thing. Do I keep the name or switch back to my old one? Hmmmm....
<thinks for a moment>
Well, Lucy Potato is suppose to be much more fun, and though that's a stretch for me, I think with a little extra sweat and blood, I can manage to be far more silly than I have been lately.
Off to buy a new toothbrush.

ok, here goes. let this be the nail in the coffin, i hope.:) ok let me redefine everything, and this is what i set out to do, i think i confused myself in the beginning: desk=system me=surroundings air around me=surroundings room=makeshift universe. i straighten up the desk and the entropy (of my desk) decreases, but as i straighten up the desk i make and release heat. the second law states that if entropy decreases in in a system, the entropy of the surroundings must be greater, so that the change in entropy of the universe is always greater than 0. er umm, i think thats it? craig.

I got a new toothbrush yesterday. I think I had had the same one for at least two years. I'm happy that my new one looks exactly like my old one because change is scary.

i bought this really big and long toothbrush with all these weird bristles sticking out and crap, to get all the nooks and crannies of my teeth. amen.
10. anti-depressants. 9. christmas carols in the bathroom of the ritz hotel. 8. decaying cells. my skin is flaking off gradually into the room. 7. i am sorely unprepared for the task at hand. 6. i have script for a tv show which i will auction off to the highest bidder. 5. i wet the bed as a child a few times. 4. my remote control alters the channels on the television, but at the moment it does not regulate my body temperature. 3. when i am far away from home, i build a chain of retail stores and exercise my power over the common man. this makes me more comfortable for a while. 2. flash bathroom allows me to be confident about my family's hygeine, while freeing up valuable time for me to watch soap operas in the afernoon. 1. an amateur theatre production of sense and sensibility, played backwards at normal speed.

Was this because of my post? Until a few years ago, I never knew enough to change my toothbrush after I was sick. Now, I change my toothbrush about every three months (what dentists say). Teeth need looking after. They are definitely high maintenance items. Sometimes I just want to go to bed, but oh damn, I haven't brushed my teeth yet.
Change is scary, but for me, I usually pick different colours. If I'm on pink now, it'll be blue next and so on....
Oh, don't brush too hard; it isn't necessary and it ruins the gums (advice I got when I used to be able to afford a dentist).

I think you talking about toothbrushes reminded me that I had had the same one forever.

I used to do that, but my new one is the same as the old one: white with red on it.

simpler music is easier to enjoy. you can witness this phenomenon in newspapers. they always do pyramid stories. they have a headline, a summary and then the proper article. all of this is so that when you lose interest you can stop reading without losing continuity. you know what's going on at a glance. with simple music, instead of taking fifty listens to enjoy something, you can get into it in fifty seconds. and then it becomes a standard genre, and then there's no way out. the radio stations aren't going to play anything much longer than 3 minutes, because people won't mind a 3 min song they don't like. they will mind a 15 min song they don't like.
ultimately, simple songs are easier for the mind and for the media to digest, so they end up more popular.
plus, most people don't actually like music all that much anyway. they aren't going to bother with something difficult. they'd rather carry on using it as a social badge, thanks very much.

AARARARGH. i was just annoyed at the fact that he came parading in as if he was right and i was wrong, saying not to gang up on him because he's "only an undergraduate cheme major." that was just lame. he doesn't understand what he was talking about, but it made me look stupid so i had to explain entropy how it fuckin is, OK??? it's not about arrogance or pedanticism. sheesh.

Here's a little article in Toronto's 'Now'. The beginning part is more relevant to your post while the second half is more about the writer's personal experiences.
Democracy? I'm not sure if we are entirely a democracy. In Ontario there are talks of changing universal health care to a two tiered system. Many people are against this, but it is slowly being ploughed through. There are problems with the system as it is now, like waiting lists and such, but at least there is a waiting list. Though I must admit, people are to blame. Many (not myself) want tax cuts and in order to fund this promised tax cuts they have to take funds from somewhere and that is health care, education and so on. If people had to choose between universal health care and tax cuts, I think that the universal health care would get more support. Problem: the direct relationship between the tax cuts and health care is not discussed. Why? Because people like 'his lord' fucking majesty Conrad Black controls much of the media. The self-interest of a small percentage of people is taking precedence over the rest of society. If you are so inclined check out the 'greying and greedy' post about the boomer's hold over the rest of us.
