The Prodigy: What Evil Lurks
[Feb 1991] 4 track EP
12" : 2/1991 UK (XL XLT 17)
A1. 04:23 What Evil Lurks
A2. 04:34 We Gonna Rock
B1. 05:03 Android
B2. 03:27 Everybody In The Place
Notes:
The tracks were recorded on a 10 track demo that Liam had
submitted to XL for consideration. The tracks on the
record came directly from the demo tape.
Only 7000 copies pressed. Officially out of print.
Some fake vinyls going around that usually have "Androids"
rather than "Android" in the track listing.
The version of "Everybody In The Place" is a slow hiphop
version, that differs from the versions that appear on the
single and the Experience album.
Reached #30 in the UK Dance charts.
Samples:
What Evil Lurks: lyrical sample "What Evil Lurks in the
hearts of men" is taken from the 40's radio series "The
Shadow"
We Gonna Rock: lyrical sample "We Gonna Rock" is from
Public Enemy's "Fight The Power".

?
7" : 1991 UK (XL XLS 21)
A. 03:38 Charly (Alley Cat Mix 7" Edit)
B. 03:56 Charly (Original Mix)
Notes:
"Your Love (The Original Version)" is the same as the
subsequently released "Your Love (The Original Excursion)"
found on the US Charly/EITP single.
The pressing plates for the 12" have been lost.
This single reached #3 in the UK singles chart, and #1 in
the UK dance chart.
This single was heavily slagged by the UK magazine 'Mixmag'
for using the Charly sample and starting the wave of kids
show sampling in dance music.
Samples:
Charly: Samples Charly the Cat voiced by late comedian
Kenny Everett), a cartoon character from 70's era of
british television that indoctrinated children with all
sort of ideas like "don't speak to strangers" and what
not. The novelty of the Charly sample is probably lost on
people who did not grow up in the UK. The idea of
sampling kid shows really caught on after this single,
for instance, the Smart E's sampled 'Sesame Street' for
"Sesame's Treet".
The break in Charly is from "Radio Babylon" by Meat Beat
Manifesto, and the main synthline is nicked from "Mentasm"
by Second Phase (AKA Joey Beltram).

with Moby in 92 in the US. Moby has now spoken out
publicly that the Prodigy's track "Smack My Bitch Up" from
'The Fat Of The Land' is indefensible and that it promotes
violence towards women. This is coming from an artist who
did a remake of a track called "That's When I Reach For My
Revolver"
"G-Force (Part 1)" is the same as "G-Force (Energy Flow)"
on the UK "Everybody in the Place" single.

Notes:
Went to #1 in the UK album charts within a week of it's
release, as well as gold. Nominated later in the year for
the prestigious Mercury Music Prize
"Their Law" was cowritten with Pop Will Eat Itself.
The intro to "The Heat" starts at the end of the
"Speedway" for some strange reason.
The extra tracks on the japanese release can be found on
other singles.
A track called "Rhythm, Rhythm, Rhythm (We Eat Rhythms, We
Sleep Rhythms)" didn't make it on the album due to a
misunderstanding of the amount of music Liam could fit on
the CD.
Collaboraters:
Pop Will Eat Itself: co-wrote and contributed to "Break &
Enter" via the postal system.
Lance Riddler: guitarist on "Voodoo People"
Phil Bent: flute player on "Voodoo People" and "3 Kilos"
Who Sings What:
Poison: Maxim
Samples:
Intro: The vocal sample "So, I have decided to take my work
back underground, to stop it falling into the wrong hands."
is from the Stephen King movie 'Lawnmower Man'
Break & Enter: The female vocal and "Bring It Down To
Earth" orginated from the Prodigy remix of "Casanova" by
Baby D
Their Law: The intro vocal sample "What we're dealing with
here is a COMPLETE lack of respect for the law" is taken
from the 197? Burt Reynolds movie 'Smokie and the Bandit'.
The sample was spoken by the character ? played by actor ?.
Full Throttle: See One Love sample notes.
Voodoo People: The guitar riff sample is from the song
"Very Ape" on Nirvana's album 'In Utero' . The vocal
sample "It's the voodoo who do what you don't dare to
people!" and "Magic People Voodoo People" from "The
Shalimar" by Gylan Kain
The Heat (The Energy): The vocal sample "Can you feel it?
The heat? The energy?" taken from the movie 'Poltergeist
II'.
No Good (Start The Dance): The vocal sample is from "No
Good For Me" by Kelly Charles.

Winx's "Don't Laugh" single. The vocal sample of "My mind
is going." (spoken by Hal, the artificially intelligent
computer) is from the movie 2001.

Notes:
The Dust Brothers refer to the UK Dust Brothers, now known
as the Chemical Brothers. The mix was retitled for the US
release. The US release, retitled as "(Chemical Brother's
Remix)" is slightly different, because one sample, which
was not cleared, was scrambled on this mix.
CJ Bolland's Museum Mix remixed by CJ Bolland, who Liam Howlett
subsequently accused of stealing too much from "Poison"
when CJ came out with "Sugar Is Sweeter".
Secret Knowledge Remix is by Kris Needs.
Reached #13 in the UK singles chart.

Disc 2: Prodigy Interview
Notes:
The album name is related to the 'rural-ness' of Braintree
and its surrounding area according to Liam Howlett in a
recent interview. This would explain the 'farm'-like
graphical representation.
"Deisel Power" was formerly known as "Blow Your Mind" before
Kool Keith added his rhymes.
The lyrics to "Serial Thrilla" were written by Skunk
Anansie's singer, Skin, and her co-lyricist, Len Arran.
"Mindfields" was originally named "Minefields" on the
abandoned single of the same name.
"Fuel My Fire" is a cover of an L7 song.
Prodigy jumps ship yet again on US distribution. For this
album, they sign with Maverick, a Warner Brothers subsidary
run by pop singer/artist Madonna.
This album used to be sold at Walmarts and K-Marts (large
department stores in the US) with the edited back cover
artwork replacing the "Bitch" and "Shit" with ant logos.
Under pressure from the National Organization of Women for
the title and lyrics of "Smack My Bitch Up" and after the
discovery of explicit lyrics (no parental advisory label was
originally on the US release), these stores stopped carrying
this album.
The quote on guns and lard in the CD booklet is from German
WW2 Luftwaffe commander Herman Goering.
Contributing Cast:
Kool Keith of Dr. Octagon/Ultramagnetic MC's: Vocals
on "Diesel Power". Also sampled for "Smack My Bitch Up"
Crispian Mills of Kula Shaker: Vocals on "Narayan"
Jim Davies of ? : Guitar on "Smack My Bitch
Up", "Breathe", "Firestarter", "Fuel My Fire"
Gizz Butt of Janus Stark: Live Guitarist
credited in booklet
Shahin Bada: Additional Vocals on "Smack My Bitch Up"
Saffron from Republica/N-Joi: Additional Vocals on "Fuel My Fire"
Samples:
Smack My Bitch Up: Lyrical sample from Kool Keith rapping
"Give The Drummer Some" by the Ultramagnetic MC's from the
album Critical Breakdown.
Breathe: Sword samples taken from Wu Tang Clan's "Da Mystery
of Shadowboxin" from the album '36 chambers' who probably
originally sampled it from somewhere else (uncredited)
Funky Shit: Lyrical sample by Ad-Roc from The Beastie Boys'
"Root Down" from the album 'Ill Communication'. Sample of
"2-3 Break" by the B-Boys. Sample from "Theme To Swat".
Serial Thrilla: samples guitar in "Selling Jesus" by Skunk
Anansie.
Firestarter: uses a wah-wah guitar sample from the Breeder's
"S.O.S". "Hey Hey" sample from The Art Of Noise's "Close To
The Edit"
Climbatize: uses a sample from The Egyptian Empire's "Horn
Track". The Jedi Nights tried to sue Liam for stealing the
drum-beat from one of their songs, but later repented when it
was pointed out that their drum-beat was stolen anyway. A
sample was recycled from Prodidgy's own "Rat Poison".
Who Does Vocals:
Smack My Bitch Up: Kool Keith of Dr. Octagon/Ultramagnetic
MC's via a sample. Additional vocals by Shahin Bada.
Breathe: Keith Flint and Maxim Reality.
Diesel Power: Kool Keith of Dr. Octagon.
Funky Shit: Ad-Rock of the Beastie Boys via a sample.
Serial Thrilla: Keith Flint.
Mindfields: Maxim Reality
Narayan: Crispian Mills of Kula Shaker
Fuel My Fire: Keith Flint, addition vocals by Saffron

04:44 No Man Army featuring Tom Morello
Notes:
See notes on The Fat Of The Land concerning "Smack My Bitch
Up". The radio edit subtlety demphasizes the word "bitch"
in the Kool Keith lyrical sample, as well as shortens the
song.
Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine contributes guitar
to No Man Army. The same track with vocals by Maxim
exists, and it's called "One Man Army" and can be found on
the Spawn soundtrack.
This single reached #8 in the UK singles chart.
One track that almost made it was the "Smack My Bitch Up
(Jonny L Remix)", which was featured on the cover of Musik
magazine (Issue 32 Jan 1998)

VHS: Promo
1. Smack My Bitch Up
Directed by ?
This video doesn't feature the group at all, other than the
music, and the ant logo tattoos at the very end. Instead, it
is shot from the point of view of an English club goer that
drinks, does drugs, fondles women, gets into fights, drinks,
breaks a DJ's record and turntable, drinks, goes to a
stripper club, picks up a dancer, and has sex. At the end,
you discover that the instagator of all this is a woman.
Features full nudity. Surprisingly, MTV Europe and even MTV
US had the guts to show the video late night, although with
some frosting out of the naked women's vulva.

The Prodigy: Inflicted
Notes:
The 'Inflicted' album was a hoax set up by Tobi Wood during
the 'countdown' to 'The Fat Of The Land'. Tobi was pissed off
with having CD bootleg pirates ripping off his site, so he set
about forging an album called Inflicted, which featured mostly
real existing tracks, except for 'Salvationed Army', 'In The
Beginning' and a fake 'Benny Blanco', composed (very well) by
Tobi himself. Even the artwork (a briefcase full of drugs
syringes) was fake.

This box set is from sweden and a hoax. The interview cd is 4:12 long
and is probably Ffffat's all folk which is a bogus interview cd with a
swede talking english in between a radio interview with Liam.

The reason that I put the box sets in the official releases is that
all of them are available through cdnow.com (as imports), and I've
never seen cdnow offer any bootlegs for sale, which makes sense,
because it's very easy for a record company to catch bootlegs being
sold via an established online store. My guess is that the box sets
are all licensed from XL, although XL doesn't officially put them out.

CDnow has had the evolution video for sale and they stil have Ffffat's
all folks 'interview' cd for sale. Both are rip-offs. If they even
looked on the Fffat' all Folks cd they'd know it was a rip-off.
Why would XL give world widedistribution/ production rights to another
swedish company when they have a scandinavian distributor? Most
importantly why is the box allowed to be sold from most large online
musicshops? I can't in any way see XL allowing for such shite attempts
at some boxed sets be allowed to be released. Just look at the covers
on Cdnow, if those aren't amatuer jobs I don't know what is. The box
set covers has a sticker on them as well, which makes them look even
more cheap. (CDnow has removed the sticker from their scans.)

I guess it's a blatant rip-off. If it was made by a swedish company,
why wasn't it made by the company that has the distribution rights for
Scandinavia?
Why use the XL numbering on the cd? Most other companies has their own
inventory system..

I'll try sending a message to XL to get to the bottom of it. The
problem with the box sets here in America is that they are priced over
$10 a CD, which is a bit much to pay for CD singles that have domestic
versions available. I suspect the box sets are even overpriced in the
UK, which would keep only the most hardcore of fans from buying them.
>You've done a great job so far. Not sure how many compilations you

I think it's a good idea to have all the compilation appearances.
That way, one my see one offered for sale that claims to have a
prodigy track on it, but you wouldn't know which one it is, or if it's
rare or not.
>Hello all,
>I've been working on a Prodigy discography,

Big *sorry!*
>Core Members:
> Liam Howlett - musical mastermind, The Prodigy.
> MC Maxim Reality - sometimes vocalist, dancer
Not officially a dancer. It's not in his 'job description'.
Real name: Keith Palmer
> Keith Flint - sometimes vocalist, dancer
> Leeroy Thornhill - dancer
Additional Live Members:
Gizz Butt - guitarist (Real name: Graham Butt)
Kieron Pepper - drummer
>The Prodigy: What Evil Lurks
> Reached #30 in the UK Dance charts.
Well, as there are no 'real' UK Dance charts, and Leeroy was the one
who spotted it in a chart in a mag in WHSmiths, it's most likely a DJ
returns chart, based on airplay.
>The Prodigy: Charly
> CD : 1991 ? (Twitch TW-CD-02)

I doubt that this even exists. Anyone out there wanna verify that?
> This single was heavily slagged by the UK magazine 'Mixmag'
> for using the Charly sample and starting the wave of kids

For trivia's sake, here's a list of the novelty 'toytown' cash-ins
which followed:
Shaft: Roobarb And Custard
Having already made one novelty single under a different pseudonym,
for his day job as 'posse' member for Steve Wright's Radio 1 show (It
was "I'll Be Back" by Arnee & The Terminaters (sic)), Richard Easter
and a friend formed this one-hit-wonder outfit to cash-in on the
success of Charly. This track sampled the 1974 Bob Godfrey dog-and-cat
cartoon 'Roobarb'. (Bob Godfrey also responsible for such classics as
'Henry's Cat' and the lesser known 'Skylark'.) The main core of this
song was based on the rasping theme tune, with a heavy beat put on it.
Other Roobarb sampling was the narrator Richard 'Ever Decreasing
Circles' Briers saying "Suddenly it all went quiet".
Richard later confessed to Liam at a party that the whole track was a
cash-in on the Prodigy's Charly. Liam refused to even acknowledge his
existence.
Smart E's: Sesame's Treet
Which charted at #2, even higher than Charly... Maybe because the
kiddie-tv-nostalgia factor was a little higher for this one.
Established US kid's TV show 'Sesame Street', famed for bringing TV
education to urban youngster with the likes of Big Bird, Oscar and
company, had it's theme tune sampled and given the same treatment as
Roobarb. (ie: a heavy backbeat put onto it) The Count (ST's resident
numeral fetishist/vampire) was the main vocal sample "1, a-ha-ha-ha!,
2 a-ha-ha-ha!", etc, etc. Recognition was at a high, because UK's ITV
network used to show syndicated episodes throughout the 80's on school
holiday mornings.
Very cheesy cheap video and 'subtle' drugs references used through
out.
The band avoided a legal wrangle with Jim Henson's lawyers when they
removed the original Cookie Monster spoof inlay artwork, and decided
to donate some of the royalties to charity.
Urban Hype: Trip To Trumpton
Semi-successful rave act rode the mainstream for a one-off with this
cash in. Sampled directly from a 7" vinyl of the theme tune (plus a
Trumpton story narrated by Brian 'Playaway' Cant) sold at a jumble
sale to the lads of Urban Hype, when they were kids.
Alongside the heavy sampling of this BBC pre-school stop-motion
animation classic (it's up there with Camberwick Green and Chigley),
were some original stuff (shock!). Dreadful cheesy vocals (I feel
the... I want your body") and cliched alarm sound, which may have been
impressive back then.
DYN: This single was recorded in the same studios as Top Buzz's
Weather Experience Remix.
Eurobop: Rainbow
The theme tune (sung by Rainbow's very own 'Rod, Jane and Freddy'- a
'Brotherhood Of Man' for the toddlers to savour) of the original
programme (ie: The Thames Television version) got a Shaft-esque
butchering. Plenty of the usual backbeat added over the top. What
would Geoffrey make of that?
Well, that's the ones I'm aware of. There was some rave single that
sampled dreadful TV ventriloquist Keith Harris and 'Orville The Duck'.
I'm not aware of the band name (was it Skin Up?), only to remember it
charted badly for them (ho ho) and Mr Harris sued their asses, IIRC.
"I hate that duck"
Hmm... the 'toytown' idea died a pretty quick death (phew!). But I
guess it lives on in Aqua's Barbie Girl. :-/

IIRC, the guy behind the voice of the kid (who was a kid at the time,
obviously) sued the Prodigy...unsuccesfully, I might add! (yay!)
> The break in Charly is from "Radio Babylon" by Meat Beat

The female scat bit? So that's where it's from! Lots of other (albeit
lesser known) rave tracks also sampled this.

Hehe... I *always* thought it was Beltram-esque!
---
>The Prodigy: Everybody In The Place

Prodigy were supporting Moby at the time.

Footnote: Add to the list of anti-SMBU whingers - Sister Bliss from
Faithless, who remixed _that_ Moby track! (Oh the irony!)
>The Prodigy: Fire/Jericho
> Fire: The vocal sample "Fire" from the 1968 single "Fire" by
> 'The Crazy World of Arthur Brown'
A #1 single at the time, and Arthur's only hit. Arthur recently
appeared on a one-off BBC2 show last year, dedicated to
one-hit-wonders, and claimed that Alice Cooper, KISS and The Prodigy
had some kind of inspiration from that record. (I agree)
>The Prodigy: The Prodigy Experience

Carl Miller. Road manager at the time when he co-wrote it with Liam.

Rip Up The Sound System isn't on any version of Experience.
> Music Reach (1/2/3/4): The vocal sample "The music reach"

Now a former next-door neighbour, AFAIK. Let's ask Smitty for the
definitive answer.
> The vocal sample "Make me wanna..." is from "Shout" by

<pub quiz mode> A #2 hit in 1968. </pub quiz mode>

Almost certain on this - the woman is from BBC Radio 4's Shipping
Forecast. "Dogger", "Cromarty" and all that. Legendary among anoraks.
>The Prodigy: Out Of Space

No, #5.
>The Prodigy: Wind It Up (Rewound)
> Reached #11 in the UK singles chart.
> Samples:
> We Are The Ruffest: uses the lyrical sample "Come Together"

Just seen Thomas's response about it being Simone Berryman. Now I
can't say for sure. But IIRC, The Experience tracks and "Rip Up..."
were the only things Ms Berryman did for the Prodigy. (She's
attempting to break into the music biz again, tho)
If this helps: Simone Angel (real name: Simone Engele, IIRC) is one of
MTV Europe's longest serving presenters. She's from the Netherlands,
and presents MTV Dance (mainstream dance music show) and MTV Party
Zone (more 'underground-ish' dance music show (for want of a better
word!), which is similar to MTV US's Amp). She did have a record out
(1993ish, IIRC), which was cheesy/eurodance-y. I only saw it once, so
I'm not sure what the name was.
Definitely a pitched-up vocal, obviously.
>The Prodigy: Wind It Up

Yes, Thomas, Bonus Beats was remixed by Tony Garcia.

Deliberately done.
The pro-obscurist DJs (read "elite trainspotter assholes with no life"
hehe) played this white label like there was no tomorrow. But
mysteriously stopped when it was revealed that it was Liam & co!
> Reached #8 in the UK singles chart.

Hmmm...still don't know if it was the reverse-sample one (Jilted) or
the true original one (One Love). I'd hazard a guess at it being the
Jilted version.
> The original mix of "One Love" is only available on vinyl.
Er, and a CD - XL Fourth Chapter Compilation.

PWEI people for Their Law. (May not be totally complete list, as I'm
not a hardcore PWEI fan, just a casual fan*)
Buzz (aka The Buzzard) on guitar
Clint Mansell on vocals.
*=Can't be certain if PWEI's bassist Richard March (now of Bentley
Rhythm Ace fame) and their drummer Fuzz (helps out Richard's BRA for
drumming on stage) are on the single.
Liam apparently 'sliced up the PWEI bits around'.
PWEI were in their 'autumn years', so to speak, when this was
recorded. (Split at the end of 94, IIRC) They played this track live
on some of their last shows.
Prodigy still play this track live, using Gizz Butt's talents to
overlay more (live) guitar over the top of the original sounds. More
recently, Keith and Maxim have sung the vocals for it too.
> Lance Riddler: guitarist on "Voodoo People"
Lance Riddler is now in a band called Genetic Source.
> Their Law: The intro vocal sample "What we're dealing with

Erm... http://www.imdb.com will help on that. (Internet Movie
Database)
> Voodoo People: The guitar riff sample is from the song

I must stress that it is not sampled from the Nirvana album, but
merely replayed by Lance in the studio.

Erm, not so much 'leaves' as 'kicked off'! :D

I think that's the sample that gets scrambled in the US version.

Unofficial, I'd say - the Prodigy Interview disc there is Fat Talk -
The Prodigy Rockview Interview disc. (At least it's better than the

1 = Method Man's original song, only with MM's 'naughty' words

resung with some of these words replaced for 'nicer' words. (ie:
"niggers" becomes "others")
2 = Exactly the same as 4, only with those 'naughty' words reversed.
3 = A remix of the song, by jungle outfit New Blood.
4 = Liam's remix.
5 = Method Man's original song, complete with obscenities. As found on
his solo LP.
6 = Same as 2 or 4, but without *any* vocals. Technically, a complete
and original Prodigy track.
> Method Man also serves in the Wu-Tang Clan, where Liam

The Wu-Tang-Clan have approached Liam to work on 4 tracks for their

Got a naughty/nice treatment (see No Good and VP) by MTV. All the
'violent' sequences (ie: the drumstick waving (ahem), the smothering
in mud) were 'mosaiced' out (*) in the nice version. The nice version
was for daytime only, altho sometimes they fuct up and even stuck it
out on the daytime. :(
However, recently, I saw the uncensored (naughty) version in the
daytime (Collexion).
* = the process some TV news programmes use to blur out known
terrorists/criminals; people-who-can't-be-name-for-legal-reasons, etc.
A really really low resolution doctoring of the image. (And I mean
LOW. Think Commodore 64! hehe!)

According to the Melody Maker write-up, that girl is an awaiting
hooker. The phone call bit would certainly suggest it. If you've never
had the pleasure of visiting London , I'll explain.
Around the central London area, particularly round Soho, Oxford St,
Piccadilly, hookers/pimps leave their calling cards in the phone box.
This started in the late 80s, and you'd see 3 or 4 of the usual "Hot
18 year old slut - call 01 123 4567" cards. By the 90's, it has
reached ginormous proportions (oo-er), and it's not uncommon to see a
box crammed full of 40-50 of this cards, many plastered on the
windows, etc.
This is what's briefly seen in the SMBU video. I didn't realise that
this was a UK specific thing (or is it?).

Anyway... here's something I must pick up on... Vulva!? Never heard it
called that before. Sorry to drag this into the gutter, but I like to

I'm embarrassed to admit it, but I bought my copy from CDNow. The
edited artwork version was a dollar cheaper than the uncensored one,
so that's why I got it. I'll have to check the small record shops to
see what versions they are carrying.

Well, vulva is a more clinical word like penis. While 'vagina' refers
to the internal cavity of a woman's genitals, 'vulva' refers to the
external female genitalia, that is, the labia and clitoris. It's very
difficult to see a woman's vagina unless you really get in there with
one of those special gynecologist examining tools (and of course, a
willing partner). To come to think of it, you don't really see any
of the vulva in the video, only pubic hair, so it's actually incorrect
to say that you see a vulva. I've changed the discography to say
"muff", which I think most people will understand, and it is a more
accurate term.
BTW, the funniest term I've ever heard was 'fur burger', from a
Screaming Jay Hawkin's record (the guy that did the original of the
song 'I Put A Spell On You' in the early '50s that was covered by
Creedence Clearwater Revival in the late '60s I think)
<dashes off to pull out Led Zep Remasters and loads all four CDs into CD
player...>
<and is midly miffed when it's picked out of the first track>
The track is "Whole Lotta Love" which I guess is from Led Zeppelin (I).
Although the sample could be taken from the Remasters set which is track 1,
CD 1 on the 4-CD set, and IIRC, track 4, CD 1 from the double-CD.
At the first occurance of the sample at 0:32, the sample is played normally,
and then reversed.
This is not the first time that WLL has been sampled. A guitar riff was
sampled by Snap for their track: Witness The Strength from World Power. They
also used the opening riff from Heartbreaker for the same track. </anorak>

Don't be embarrassed. One day when I've got some excess cash (yeah

And 1:00 of it is regular speedway with some of the samples played a
bit different. (stuttering-ish)

Chris, I'm appalled at you. :)
When mentioning incidents where WLL has been plagaraised, you forgot
to mention the most famous ones.
The flute version for the Top Of The Pops theme back in the late
1970's.
And the 1995 single 'Whole Lotta Love' by Goldbug, which was basically
a cover, with a lot of that funky guitar sampled in it. (Along with
the 'pa-pa pa-pa' theme from the 'Pearl And Dean' cinema trailers -
altho that's not er, a Led Zeppelin related thing)

Listen to RoL carefully, and you'll notice that the "your mind" bit is
from a different sample. Some nice cut&paste work by Liam: from the
two samples "Rhythm of Life" and "Open your Mind" he made "Rhythm of

erm... I just dunno...

I love 70s TOTP.
Having pulled out the booklet that came with the box set, I can provide the
following information:
Written by all four.
Recorded in 1969 at Olympic Studios, London.
Engineered by George Chkiantz.
Mixed at A&R Studios, New York, with Eddie Kramer.
Originally released on October 22, 1969 on "Led Zeppelin II" (and not LZ I
as I originally posted)
Released as a single on 11/7/69 and reaching #4 in the US Charts.
I read the autobiography of their US tour manager and he said that the yanks
made LZ release a single which they didn't want to do, but according to the
booklet, a lot of singles were released.

sketch he goes on about Wally's (whick is another term for anoraks) I used

really fits the description of true anoraks. I'll have to Mpeg it and post

Maybe pitchshifting? I don't know, but it certainly sounds a lot like

Erm... the samples are clearly from the Emination and the Magi track he
remixed. In fact, that is not the only sample he took from there if you
listen - the "one Love" sample also appears on that EP. I always wondered

It doesn't, apart from the Moomins themselves. They are the evil

Yeah, yeah, pal. They got you fooled. That's their decoys. They run

Saw them the other week. I can see where they wouldn't go down well

I liked 'em, though.

Er, me and some KoRn fans (myself included - I love KoRn) have all
seen The Orb live, and enjoyed it.

Oh, right. Actually, I always thought he looks like Specs or whoever
it was from Thunderbirds.. BTW, seen any of the clothing his
designed? It looks the way his music sounds. Porno-lounge. :P

Actually, I recently noticed that I like the new Metallica better

Whatever. Actually, I like Hanson too. Nought wrong with a bit of
bubblegum pop, as long as it's GOOD bubblegum pop. (i.e. not the
Spice Girls. Or Take That. Or any of that bunch.)
Anyway, HIM are sort of like a gothier Type O Negative on downers.
(And silverchair are really fucking heavy, so your comment's
irrelevant. Nyah.)

Porno-lounge is a nice new term. Hmm... I would use that term to
describe "Bentley's Gonna Sort You Out" by Bentley Rhythm Ace.

You are. You know when you're old when you prefer "nice tunes where
you can hear all the words, and there's a nice melody to whistle along
too".

Check 'em out. They're good. Geir Hongro would really hate them -
not a melody in sight, and most of the sounds are probably distorted
samples of a broken vacuum cleaner or something similar.

I think I've preferred "nice tunes where you can hear all the words,
and there's a nice melody to whistle along too" all my life. Nought
wrong with a bit of esoteric noise or big fat beats, though! :P

Practically anything written and performed by a bunch of kids is good
honest bubblegum pop. BTW, do you know where I can get "Sugar Sugar"
by The Archies?

Now *that* sounds like a really cool reccommendation!
A Geir Hongro Disapproval sticker would boost credibility among any
musician!

Well, this is where you and Geir would be wrong - Technically,
anything with two or more notes has a melody. :-P
