The song extraloveable is a funky ass tune made around the Purple Rain
days.
Any deep fans i am sure have heard it.
Surprisingly to me it was left off the Crystal Ball set.
Does anyone else agree that this jam is all that?
peace and be wild

I'm with you on this. "Extraloveable" is exquisite. It's such a drug for
me. I can't get enough of it. I had hoped to see it released on CB, but I'm
optimistic that now, with Warners out of the way, it will eventually be
officially released. the sooner the better!

Extra Loveable is an awesome track, but I bet we never see it officially
released for one reason. The "rape" lyrics.
"I'm on the verge of rape, don't think ya heard me. I'm on the verge of rape.
" / "I'm sorry, I'm just going to have to rape you" / "Now are you going to get
into the tub, or do I have to drag you? I can be very cruel"
Unless these lines are edited out, I doubt Prince or even Warners (If THEY
own it) would be comfortable putting that out.
Many people would be offended.

Ok, but they weren't afraid to release "Lady Cab Driver" (he *is* raping her),
"Let's Pretend We're Married" (he says he wants to fuck the taste out of her
mouth), "It", "We Can Funk", "Horny Toad", "Jack U Off", "Bambi", "Feel U Up",
"Irresistible Bitch", "Erotic City"... the list goes on. He isn't scared of
releasing it. He is just stubborn. And there is the fact that WB owns more
outtakes than we know of.

I don't think this is a fact. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the
only mention of this was in a vague blurb at L41A? I wouldn't consider
that place the most reliable source of truthful information. Remember
all the things they promised about Crystal Ball?

Until I hear some evidence to change my mind, I'll keep believing that
Prince hasn't released a lot of great unreleased stuff because he
didn't want to, not because of contractual obligations.

Of course he doesn't want to release the shit. He has always said that he makes
music for himself mainly. He releases it to fund him making more keyboards or
getting Mayte another Hawaiian island.

The difference in those songs is that he is not literally coming out saying
that he is going to rape somebody. I can hear all the hoopla that would be
made about that portion of the song, and rightly so. The song is raw funky
though, he just needs to take that part out. I'm glad he came to his senses
and didn't release that song with those lyrics in it.

Earth to Funkmebabe! Lady Cab Driver is a PERFECT example of a song that
CROSSES the line when it comes to rape or the insuation of having to or being
raped. Extra Loveable is a harmless song when compared to Lady Cab Driver.

I never took LCD to be about rape. Sounds to me like Jill was having fun?
Anyone else? Has my number one prince song all this time been about rape?

Me either. Jill even moans "yesss" during the song. Rough sex maybe,
rape no.

That song is not about rape....hot, nasty, funky,
frustration-releasing, in-the-back-of-a-cab sex - yes,
but not rape. ;-)

I don't think LCD crosses the line, although it can appear to be
uncomfortably close to bordering on the grey area in between (if there is a
grey area when it comes to rape - that's another discussion). The first half
of that section in the bed is what's in question because of the verbalized
anger. However, the anger is never verbalized against the girl, but other
outside forces. And I'll be the first to say sex is not the best place to
take out your anger (although arguably, great for working out frustration)
but he does include the line about "this is for where you [- the girl -] have
to live" and "this is for the cab you have to drive for no money at all". So
if he cares enough about her to be angry over poor conditions in the girl's
life, I think it's safe to assume he's considerate enough not to try to hurt
her. The second half sounds like both parties are enjoying it. And
considering the girl (Jill Jones) is making the same type of sounds during
the first half that she is in the second half when I think most would agree
everything's kosher, I assume once again that she is not to be depicted as
suffering any bodily harm.

Somebody else probably already mentioned this, but I read Extraloveable was
written for Vanity 6 to sing, so the line "I'm going to have to rape you" was
intended to be sung by a woman. This would fall in line with the sexually
agressive theme of Vanity 6, and I would argue that it does not imply true
rape, or threat coming from a woman as statistically, women make up the
minority of sexual offenders.

LCD is questionable and can be interpreted differently, but these are my
reasons for concluding that 0(+> was not advocating rape in these two songs
(or in any IMO).

Lady Cab Driver seemed more like seduction to me. There are no rape overtones.
Oh, and I listened to Extra Loveable again a while ago, and I think Prince was
very angry when he recorded this. Especially the line, "Hey, Dez, don't you
like my band?"

I always thought that in "Lady Cab Driver", he was just fucking the shit out of
her.

You know, some chicks do holler like that when the sex is good. And some
niggas talk shit like that when it's good.

"That's for me and that's who that one's for..."

Y'all know that all of you have either said that or had it said to you. If
not, my condolences....
