Just curious as to who is still a member of this Corporation and why?
The website appears to have not been updated in over a year with the
latest news being posted in March of 2011. The mission state of the
PAC it states that it is their mission To provide college scholarships
to those interested in polka music and are furthering their musical
studies. However, no link to information about college scholarships or
applications could be found on the site. The site also features an
application for children who are in family's with low income. Upon
clicking the link for the application you see the deadline to apply is
dated August 1st, 2008. Just curious how many children they were able
to get instruments for, when very very few American families fall
below the $15,000 a year adjusted gross income level. Which means
you'd have to be making below minimum wage. Under the press release
link i found an article titled "PAC launches first grant program" I
click the link to find out more and it takes me to a page Error 404
page not found. It is a shame for those who have membership within the
PAC can not find out where their membership dues are going to? Also
after six years of being created the PAC was only able to offer one
Grant program when it is listed on the homepage under the mission.
Which also brings up another point with a Press Release page that
appears to be updated once a year, it appears they have little to show
for after collecting your dues.

would be glad to accept your volunteerizm as that is what we all are -
do you think it's easy to do anything in this world whilst the price
of everything keeps going up up up and we scramble to feed ourselves
and our families etc (blessed that I'm able, but many aren't as you
know, and I aint' rich financially)? so for a few bucks we can do
what we can. It ain't all magic. It takes effort and it's enough to
do some of what we get done - we could use somebody to work our web
page - if you know of someone that would be helpful first off! Thank
you & I'm saying all this in the nicest way. WW

A a non-profit corporation....they should be audited by the government.
And at least make their financial statements public.

Otherwise they are not even as credible as the Widow in Nigeria.

You have a website.
Post your full financial statement ONLINE, so EVERYONE CAN SEE IT
My contacting you personally, is still not going to clear up any questions
others have.

But if you really want to know,....
I still have the same issues I had before, of any group who are proud of
being active "bedfellows" of Sound Exchange, who forced many independent
polka radio shows off the air. by imposing ridiculous fees, and rarely
paying anything to the artists they claimed they were collecting the moneys
on behalf of.

Even PolkaJammer was just about shut down.
Now tell me again,....how THAT, is promoting polka music ?

And I really would love to see your <giggle> organization's stance POSTED
HERE.
On SOPA and PIPA and other similar "agreements" that may very easily shut
down many privately run polka websites

And when I made that public before,....your goon squad immediately started a
malicious barrage of abusive and derogatory posts on this and other
newsgroups I use, that looked like they were made by me.
(that is the demented response of someone who is not EVER to be trusted)
And I had to have the newsserver where the posts originated, shut down that
account to stop it

So now, PAC can kiss my,......petunias.

curious why you have no intentions to communicate with me? when i was
a previous member, actually one of the first members. You accepted my
money in the past and now as a potential member you have no intentions
of communicating with me. I am sorry but as a President of a
corporation I feel that is very unprofessional behavior. I also would
like you know why the concerns can't be addressed in public whether it
be on the website or on here. I look forward to hearing from you

Uh,...I never WANTED to communicate on a personal /less public level with
you.
And I don't have to be professional, I'm just a poster on USENET with a
personal opinion offered in a random thread.

And more importantly,....I don't give a rats ass what you think "as a
president of a corporation".

But if saying you should be openly presenting you finances, since you are
soliciting donations.
And you seem to have some issues with that,.....Well ? ,.....what are you
trying to hide ?

If I asked YOU for money,...I'm sure you would ask what it's being spent on.

My comment was geared to John not Amun. The PAC is clearly being run
by children with these antics

My apologies to you "polkap"
I should have noticed the reply was from you and not the silly people.

But the sentiments still are the same.
I do not recognize that groups self-proclaimed authority as "polka leaders",
and still feel they have hurt more than they help.

And why the opinion of little old me would even bother them, is quite
baffling.

they aren't replying to this thread, because they want the post to go
dead. I just wanted simple questions answered. that is all.

In fairness to PAC it should be mentioned that this org has done a
number of uniquely good things for the field , including establishing
open voting procedures which allow everyone, not just paid-up org
members ( as is the case with other orgs) to vote . The voting, I
recall, is monitored by an agency that certifies the result ( Thus
the PAC awards have not to my knowledge been subject to the great
controversy we have witnessed on this site that invariably accompany
another org's awards. This org also includes and recognizes a full
range of ethnic polka styles ( not just Polish , as is the case with
another major org , or Slovenian , which is the case with a couple of
others). I understand that all org officers and workers are
volunteers, that the org recently lost the services of its most
talented volunteer web specialist, and that , because of the economic
crisis of recent years, grant money for its well-intentioned programs
is extremely hard to come by. The other polka orgs ( and indeed
virtually every major organization follows this practice) do not
generally display their financial data on public sites : Given that
fact, I think John Z's offer to discuss this individually with one
critical poster was quite forthcoming. To my knowledge ( and, for the
record, I have never been a member of this org, and actually had some
serious differences , reflected on this site, with its previous
administration some years back), Pres. John Z and board member "Wild
Wilson" are both honest gentlemen who have worked hard for this music
for many years. As Rod W. mentions above, hopefully they may receive
more support so they can continue their good work in these difficult
times.
I'm also grateful to "Heiney24," with whom I also had a
disagreement on occasion, for speaking up in defense of John, Rod and
their org. , which moved me to do the same : I know from experience
that it's hard to be the first one to do this , but both sides should
certainly be heard , so this was the right thing to do.

I never had an issue with John Z or the Wildman my question was about
the PAC not to them directly, John wrote he had no intentions to
communicate with me, which i was confused about. I was an original
member of the organization and was shunned.

I figured that out too since http://www.bestpolkabands.com is hosting
the balloting for the PACE awards this year. Rob is doing a great job
helping PAC out and I hope they will get a new website soon. I
completely understand any frustration seeing out-dated info on the
existing PAC website, and also understand the many complaints posted
here. I also see no problem contacting John Z or any officer of PAC
privately.

I'm sure they would welcome a new webmaster if there are any
volunteers. I resigned as a board member a while back because of
conflicts of interest, namely because of their PACE awards program.

My comments stated, were not personal jabs at anyone or members of the board. Just stating facts, I do wish the organization best of luck, and hopefully my post has sparked some changes.

On the website tonight, glad to see they're finally changing something and making MUCH needed updates. However, they still lack a mission statement.

"The Polka America Corporation (PAC) is a non-discriminatory organization that encourages, supports and promotes polka music at all levels. This is the only multi-genre, national large-scale corporation of its kind that is in existence.
"

I think that says a lot...

Their Pace Awards do reflect their continued effort to recognize all styles of polka.
