Recently, "Sweet Home Chicago", which is generally recognized as
the "anthem" of blues music ( which has been recorded by many leading
rock, R&B bands, etc., too ), was in the national news "big time"
because President Obama sang it ( well^ ) along with a group of
musical superstars ( Clapton, Jagger and more ) at a DC event. By
apparent coincidence ( but also because the song is such a cultural
"institution" ), this song was also featured as the main theme in a US
history film shown in the high school where I work, so I can't get it
out of my head ). Since this song is an "iconic" tribute to the city
of Chicago ( and "world-class catchy" ) I think it would be great if a
polka band ( preferably one playing "Chicago style", with some nice ,
wailing brass and reeds, etc. ) were to do a good polka version of
this number. Freeze Dried, for one, would be a great band to do this
( To my knowledge they haven't so far, although their multicultural
achievements in this area, combining Chicago style polka with R&B and
much more in their performances, have been exemplary ) , but I believe
they are on hiatus right now. In any case , I think it would be great
if there were one or more polka versions of what is probably Chicago's
most famous song ever ( and certainly the Chicago song which has been
recorded and performed ( including by several of the world's most
famous figures ever in one evening on the video above) more often and
by more great artists than any other "Chicago song" in history : What
a polka this would make ( I feel sure) --done "Chicago style."

Sure why not Joe...of course remember from the Blues Brothers movie with John Belushi and Dan Akroyd did a fun version.

The Polkaholics could crank it up!

Anybody could play it, or record it, of course, but I admit I keep
"hearing it" with those horns , which are of course a trademark of
"Chicago style" polkas.

Sure, but something different is usually always a good thing! They crank it up on my show this week doing their song "All the wild and crazy polka fans" and with the energy that they bring there could bring that new to the energy of that song. Think? Dig the day!

Then George Bush sang "Bedziesz Ty Plakala" The biggest hit in Texas.
