Gabriel did write a draft script back in the late '70's for a Lamb
movie, the project never really got off the ground.

Question
Was there ever a movie made about
"The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway"

was Peter Gabriel in it?

Answer
Hello Emile...

No, the Lamb was never made into a film.

But Peter Gabriel did write a film screenplay right around 1979 for the
Lamb. He had to find financing for the movie and Atlantic records had
just dropped him after hearing demos of things that were to become his
third album. They suggested he seek psychiatric help in fact. Anyway,
Atlantic dropping him at that point kind of hurt his chances. If
Atlantic weren't willing to invest in his music, which is how he made a
living, then why should they invest in a new film career.. That's how
the thinking went anyway.

The idea was that Peter would have a role in either playing Rael (which
at 30, he said, probably wouldn't work because Rael is about 18), or
behind the scenes learning about film making and having a hand in
directing perhaps.

Also, another idea was to have Genesis reform in its Lamb lineup to
re-record the album. Phil Collins was into that idea. Tony and Mike
were more lukewarm about that idea.

Peter Gabriel re-read his screenplay a couple of years ago and said,
"Something may still come of it, who knows?"

So, in other words, there were plans for such a project, but they never
materialized.

If you're curious, much of that information comes from an interview in
1980 that I have on CD. And the information about Peter re-reading the
screenplay comes from the double CD interview promo discs concerning the
Genesis Archive Box Set Volume 1.

Hope this answers your question.. Take care....
Joe

You might be able to find a copy of the entire ReGenesis Lamb show filmed at
the 2001 Genesis Convention in Guildford on eBay or similar...
