A lesson that I still remember from 8th grade history. Our teacher
taught us that the French gave us three things in the R. War:

Money
Men
Ships

And sure many people make fun of the French for the non-war stance
and the fact that we went there in WW2, but we were paying them back
for the R. war in many ways.

But I have to admit that I don't get where they are coming from
today......

Anti France propaganda? It's weird, ever since Bush wants to start this
ridiculous war, I suddenly see American people writing anti-France
things.

I received this one yesterday (pro France) and I thought it was funny:

"In light of the current international situation we'd like to call upon
everyone to make the 3rd of March 'Order FRENCH fries day!'

Actiongroups will gather all around the world at the local MacDonalds to
order large amounts of FRENCH fries.

Everyone should wear frie colored clothes and bring mustard. The words
'Iraq' and 'Bush' should specifically not be mentioned in the process.
We'll be completely silent, except every now and then we'll order FRENCH
fries.

3rd of March: Order FRENCH fries day!!! Bring all your friends to the
local Macdonalds!

Pass the message on!"

Better late than never...
But still, in the Netherlands there was a terrible hunger winter, early
1945, that could have been prevented, maybe, saving thousands of lives
(mostly children and old people, who were the weakest). We were
'liberated' on the 5th of May 1945. That's why that's our liberation day
each year.
Also, there were many people involved in this war. Don't forget the
Russian, British, Polish, and Canadian soldiers, for instance, and the
people from the European countries and the colonies in Asia.

The Complete Military History of France

* Gallic Wars - Lost. In a war whose ending foreshadows the next 2000
years of French history, France is conquered by of all things, an
Italian.

* Hundred Years War - Mostly lost, saved at last by female
schizophrenic who inadvertently creates The First Rule of French
Warfare; "France's armies are victorious only when not led by a
Frenchman."

* Italian Wars - Lost. France becomes the first and only country to
ever lose two wars when fighting Italians.

* Wars of Religion - France goes 0-5-4 against the Huguenots

* Thirty Years War - France is technically not a participant, but
manages to get invaded anyway. Claims a tie on the basis that
eventually the other participants started ignoring her.

* War of Devolution - Tied. Frenchmen take to wearing red flowerpots
as chapeaux.

* The Dutch War - Tied

* War of the Augsburg League/King William's War/French and Indian War
- Lost, but claimed as a tie. Three ties in a row induces deluded
Frogophiles the world over to label the period as the height of French
military power.

* War of the Spanish Succession - Lost. The War also gave the French
their first taste of a Marlborough, which they have loved every since.

* American Revolution - In a move that will become quite familiar to
future Americans, France claims a win even though the English
colonists saw far more action. This is later known as "de Gaulle
Syndrome", and leads to the Second Rule of French Warfare; "France
only wins when America does most of the fighting."

* French Revolution - Won, primarily due the fact that the opponent
was also French.

* The Napoleonic Wars - Lost. Temporary victories (remember the First
Rule!) due to leadership of a Corsican, who ended up being no match
for a British footwear designer.

* The Franco-Prussian War - Lost. Germany plays the role of drunk Frat
boy to France's ugly girl home alone on a Saturday night.

* World War I - Tied and on the way to losing, France is saved by the
United States. Thousands of French women find out what it's like to
not only sleep with a winner, but one who doesn't call her "Fraulein."

* World War II - Lost. Conquered French liberated by the United States
and Britain just as they finish learning the Horst Wessel Song.

* War in Indochina - Lost. French forces plead sickness, take to bed
with the Dien Bien Flu

* Algerian Rebellion - Lost. Loss marks the first defeat of a western
army by a Non-Turkic Muslim force since the Crusades, and produces the
First Rule of Muslim Warfare; "We can always beat the French." This
rule is identical to the First Rules of the Italians, Russians,
Germans, English, Dutch, Spanish, Vietnamese and Esquimaux.

* War on Terrorism - France, keeping in mind its recent history,
surrenders to Germans and Muslims just to be safe. Attempts to
surrender to Vietnamese ambassador, fail after he takes refuge in a
McDonald's. The question for any country silly enough to count on the
French should not be "Can we count on the French?" but rather "How
long until France collapses?"

Keep asking yourself, is this really 100% satire?

And if you'd READ the THREAD, you'd see that the Americans owe theirs (at

the Americans. See, that's called a "give and take relationship", something
American foreign policy is seriously lacking right now....

Most US corporations/financial interests did deals with Hitler up until the USA
got into WWII. Considering the wealth and stature of the Bush family at that
time, it would have been almost shocking if they hadn't had some kinds of
dealings with the Nazis. Many big businessmen thought highly of Hitler and I'm
not aware of any who refused to do business with him. Hell, Dick Cheney's
company did deals with Saddam fucking Hussein in 1998.

For multiple, overlapping accounts (of varying reliability) of what the Bush
family was up to during this time, just do a google search on "Prescott Bush
and Germany" (or Hitler, Nazis, whatever). I'm not trying to defend the Bushes,
but do keep in mind that they weren't the only ones to break bread with the
Nazis.

We Americans take a lot of shit from the French in general. It is widely
known that there isn't much love or respect for us from Frenchie. I guess
they (in general) can dish it out, but can't take it. I think we get so much
hatred from them because they owe the US for their freedom. They'd be
speaking German right now if not for the efforts of American soldiers.

Except Frenchie didn't help the US during the Revolutionary War because they
loved us & shit, it was because they hated the English & would've fought
with anyone against them. So, with that in mind, we helped & bailed them out
again. During WWII, we didn't need their sorry asses to defeat the axis. The
US & the English did just fine without their overtaken asses.

Actually, we *didn't* fight WWII because we felt a debt to France for their
help in the Revolutionary War. We fought WWII because the Japanese and the
Germans declared war on the USA. And there are many US soldiers who owed their
lives to the brave efforts of the French Resistance, so watch out with the
arm-chair generaling. Plenty of Frenchmen died fighting Hitler too so fuck you
if you want to dishonor *their* sacrifices just because you are frustrated with
the diplomatic efforts of *today's* French Government.

Nowhere in my post does it say anything about fighting in WWII as a debt to
France.

Uh, that's what you do when you're allies in a war.

I am not frustrated with the French government, I'm just staing a fact that
Frenchie fails to know or remember why it is that they're free today.

Or (leaving questions of justice out of it), that France owes George W. Bush

I don't think they should support the U.S., their military is pretty
worthless. I do think they should respect America & Americans a little more
instead of forgetting that it was the good ol' U.S or A that handed them

I would like to add something for some people in this thread (not to
Lean, with whom I agree):
Do you know anybody from France? Why the hatred?
I could say I hate the French because the audience in Paris during Pearl
Jam was so rude, but that would be totally unfair to all the good people
I know in that country.
It's so easy to hate people or things if you don't know them....
So, my advice: get to know some people, broaden your horizon.

Yeah, its pretty silly to think that the USA fought WWII for reasons like this:

May, 1940. The White House.

FDR: Its really terrible about Germany invading France.

Elanor: Yes, don't you think that we should do something to help out those poor
Frenchmen? I hate to think of what Hitler is going to do to their asses.

FDR: Hey, remember back in the Revolutionary War? France helped us. Why don't
we go help *them* out?

Elanor: Franklin, you are so smart! Of course we will go help the French! We
Americans love the French and their French asses, we must call up General
Marshall and have him come up with a plan to save their French asses
immediately!

FDR: We are so generous and wonderful, now France will always do exactly what
we want, forever and forever! Oh those sweet French asses, I can just imagine
how much fun our soldiers will have saving them. Because that is the highest
priority of America, after all.

How educated are you. I'm willing to bet that you haven't even gotten past

French people!

>I'm not sure why I'm even argueing with some one so

Sundiff, *you* are the one obsessed wiht masterbating second graders! If you
read back over the thread, you'll see quite clearly that you were the one who
introduced that (quite sick) topic. But it appears that you keep projecting
your own pathologies on other people (like you do the entire French nation).

>For the record in defence of my so
>called lack of intelligence, I speak 3 languages (English, German &

Sundiff, I never said you lacked intellegence. I'm sure it takes a *whole lot*
of brain power to study art. You must be really really smart to look at a bunch
of pictures. I bet you even had to read a few books, too, and they had actual
words under the pictures! You are such a big brain, I'm going to call you "Big
Brain Sundiff" so you feel better about yourself.

>Oh, & BTW, I'm German & French, so I'm allowed to have a bad
>opinion of the rude, American hating French.

LOL, this proves my point. You can't love yourself, you are just so full of
hatred for everyone. You are French, so you hate Americans, but you hate the
French too! Big Brain Sundiff, when you learn to love yourself that's the
greatest love of all.

Here's a song you can sing, Big Brain Sundiff. It was recorded by the great
Whitney Houston and it goes like this:

"I decided long ago
Never to walk in anyone's shadows
If I fail, if I succeed
At least I will live as I believe
No matter what they take from me
They can't take away my dignity"

Big Brain Sundiff, you don't have to hate the French anymore! Its okay! Let go
of the past and walk into the light!

Me: That was actually funny until you broke out the 2nd grade
mastubation
remark.

2nd grade is an adjective here, I wasn't talking about 2nd graders. It is
your sick mind that put the 2 together.

Ever take an art history course? At a good school, you not only learn about
the artwork you also learn about what was going on in the world at the time.
That's why it's call art history, because you learn history, too. That's how
I got such a big brain.

When you put it that way, in the word of Houston that is, how can I argue
with you or the French.

So in other words, you brought up the topic of masterbation and 2d graders by
placeing the two concepts right next to each others. You weren't talking about
2d graders, but yet you used the word 2d grade. Big Brain Sundiff, what was
your MA in again? Language? No, Art History, oh yes!

Big Brain Sundiff, I bet you learned a lot about history looking at pretty
pictures! You are so smart it kills me.

No, it was you that brough masterbation into this stupid little conversation
of ours. I said your comment was funny until you added that "2nd grade" (2nd
grade is a descriptive word implying immaturity here) masterbation remark.
And it was "2nd" not "2d", so, again it's you that's an idiot because you
can't read.

Oh Big Brain Sundiff, you are mistaken. You are the one who introjected the
topic of masterbation and 2d graders. *You* were getting all hot and bothered
about saving Frenchie's ass, all I did was call you out on it. Then *you*
brought up 2d graders and masterbation, which is totally inappropriate because
everyone knows that masterbation is not typical of 2d graders.

If you studied any psychology while working on your MA in Art History, you
might recognize that as a "freudian slip". It hints at the terrible trauma you
must have suffered when you were young, which likely relates to your unhealthy
hatred for the entire French nation. Big Brain Sundiff, it doesn't matter how
smart you are (and with an MA in Art History, you must be *really* smart). The
subconscious might block out things from your memory, but they will resurface
in other places. Until you can deal with the past, you are doomed to recreate
that trauma in inappropriate ways, like hating the French or flaming people for
typos. And since you are French yourself, its obviously *doubly* unhealthy.

"Did the French [ie Big Brain Sundiff in the 2d grade] ever fight well?" Big
Brain Sundiff, a 2d grader can't *possibly* fight off an adult. Stop blaming
yourself. It wasn't your fault. You don't have to hate yourself anymore. And
you don't have to lash out at me or the French, either. We're just trying to
help you love yourself again.

Big Brain Sundiff, don't hate, relate! Its not too late, the French are great!
2d graders don't masterbate. Give yourself a *big* hug, things will get better.

I like the one diner in NC, I think, that renamed their "french fries"
"liberty fries". Yeah, great idea - morons. Maybe instead of changing the
name of the artery clogging product, people could just not eat french fries,
period, fat asses. But that would be asking too much I guess. People only go
so far to seem patriotic.

What do you have against fried food? I think this takes the cake, you can't

Shut up & eat your veggie burgers & tofu.

Maybe it wasn't clear: I meant it as a part of this entire debate
regarding war...the "French suck" thing was an offshoot of that
argument.

No, I want people to disagree. My last post was about wanting people to not
get along & start disliking eachother again. I apologize if my point wasn't
clear, but I'm all for ridding the world of all this over-sensativity. Some
is OK, but we as a whole have gone overboard.
To say stuff against fried food is just criminal.

I have nothing against french fries or fried food. I just picture these
people saying "I'll show those French people, we'll call them liberty fries
now." Well if you really feel up for the cause maybe boycott french fries
altogether. Come on, put your money where your mouth is. Due some faux
patriotic thing that might actually require sacrifice. Not that I think that
is patriotic in any way...

Reminds me of the people with the $5 flags on their cars after 9/11...but
that was as far as they went because it *was* the *least* they could
possibly do.

The Scottish prove this, but only because cancer takes longer to kill you than
eating nothing but fried food... they all die of heart attacks before they get
cancer...

Moral: if you smoke, eat lots of fried food and no vegetables, because a heart
attack is a quicker and less painful death.
