One of the reasons that I love Pj so much, besides the ovbvious, there music
and the impact they've had on the earlier parts of my life, is that they care
about the music. I am a aspiring musician and If there is one dream I have in
this world, it is to play in fromt of a group of people who love the music as
much as I do. Its not about the money or the fame, athough financial security
is a nice thing to have, especially for someone like me who has never had any,
but for me it is all about the music.
I made a decision in my life recently that a lot of people close to me cant
understand. I decided to not go back to school and get a degree because the way
I feel is that If I can play music for the rest of my life I'll be happy. And
if it means that througout my whole life I try to reach my dream, I'll be happy
if I die trying.
You guys probably dont really care about all this, but I felt like sharing
Russ T
Well, I don't know. I'd still take the big things, and then keep enjoying
the little things. I can still sit around, have a beer after work (except
I'll be drinking good beer, instead of cheap 40s of Colt 45), I could still
joke with my friends (only we'd be sitting on plush couches, instead of
that cheap piece of shit on our porch), I could still have Pearl Jam on the
stereo (but it'll be a kick-ass system, instead of the little Aiwa sound
ditty that I've got going).
I mean, I dont' think I'd ever forget the little things in life, no matter
how rich I got. I would never forget to hang out, to have a good time, to
get drunk, get naked, and run down the street while the cops are chasing
after you with their guard dogs and cans of mase, and your only refuge is
to sprint into a complete stranger's house and try and explain why they
cannot open the door to report to the police outside why there is a naked
guy with obvious shrinkage from the insane cold standing inside their
living room. I would never forget those moments. I like cruising with my
bros, but it'd be much better in a silver V-12, 400 hp Mercedes SL-600
instead of a 1984 Honda Accord LS. I like shooting pool with my friends,
but it'd be much better on my own table in my own basement, instead of in a
swanky pool hall, for $15 a game, and having to deal with the slutty white
trash women trying to get us to buy them beer 'cause their husbands are off
shooting at passing cars?? Hell, I love sitting around and tossing back a
few cold ones with the buddies, but wouldn't it be nice if they were long
bottles of Sierra Nevada, instead of piss-warm cans of MGD??
There isn't a thing wrong with the big things, I think. As long as you
don't forget the little things. Money doesn't make someone happy, but it
sure can help a happy person be damn comfortable. And I'm happy...just a
little uncomfortable. ;)
Oh....and this was a little interesting nuance that I noticed. You
said....

Who's arrogant? :)
Anyways...good post Cameron. I'm guessing you've been hittin' the bong
tonight? You've been having "deep weed" thoughts.

;) Nah, I was only being sarcastic about the "arrogant American" thing. Americans
ARE arrogant, there's no question about that. But some of us are alright!! And
some of you Aussie's are alright, as well! We're all alright, in the long run!

hahaha....just the random depth of thought? In any case, I agree with you, to an
extent. If I had to choose between really nice possessions vs. good love, good
friends, and good times, I would obviously pick the latter. As Homer Simpson once
asked Mr. Burns..."Does your money say 'I Love You' at night?"
> P.S There is nothing wrong with warm beer
Trust me....warm Milwaukee's Best is like the urine of a drunk Irishman. It might
get you tipsy, but you ain't having fun doing it.

I am fortunate to have a life I really enjoy. Family and friends I
love and enjoy are very important, I have those. As long as I have
enough money to meet my needs, with some left over for the things I
enjoy I feel rich, I have that. Having a job I love, is very
important to me, nothing is worse than waking up every morning and
dreading the day ahead (been there). Fortunately, I love my job, the
things I do change often and are challenging, to top it all off I get
to constantly learn and top that off even better, I work with a
terrffic bunch of people, they are smart, funny and everyone helps
everyone else.

You are right, the best way to learn and grow is to change chances and
to challenge yourself, and that usually means making mistakes.

Having dreams and goals is the starting point of making a beautiful
life. Somehow, I think you are going to end up with one.

This is an interesting thread, and I agree, having people from all
over the globe and from different backgrounds is what makes this place
a great newsgroup to hang out in.

but...
that's not to say that i don't also appreciate certain tangible
items as well. anything from magnificent glassware to fine
automobiles. i'm a sucker for a nice sports car.
i guess when it comes right down to it, as long as i'm happy -
that's the most important thing. i could live without the sports
car, but not without the sunsets.
