hey kids! i'm sending this message all over the place, so i hope you
enjoy it.

Hey, I just got back from a NIN show at the edge in Palo Alto (California,
Bay Area). Anyway, here's my impressions/what went on there.

Trent came out dressed pretty much like he was in the wish video.
Black tank top thing, little leather shorts, fishnet stockings, and
the leather gloves. He's grown some big ass sideburns since that
though. If he wore his hair straight up, was less perverted and more
depressed, he would be Morrissey.

The band - guitarist, keyboard/guitarist guy, keyboard guy, drummer, trent.
the one guitarist is pretty damn ugly. he was wearing a dog collar. hmmm...

anyway, they were full of rage and hate. trent was basically looking
for things to smash and kick throughout the show. Quoth trent "Our
equipment keeps breaking. I don't know why" (kicks over keyboard)
yes, they still were throwing water into the crowd like they always
have, although less dixie cups, more bottled water.

what's interesting is that they played a lot of phm stuff, and not much of the
new things. here's the playlist as best i can remember it... it's probably
out of order, but i think i got every song.

pinion (intro - at least it sounded like pinion)
terrible lie
sin
march of the pigs
reptile
closer
wish
suck
the only time (Trent: "There's one we haven't played in a long time")
down in it
head like a hole

encore:
now i'm nothing
purest feeling (judging from the lyrics)
twist (thought it was ringfinger, but the lyrics were different. i assume this
is twist)
pigs in zen (jane's addiction cover - sticking with the pig metaphor)
buttfuck parlour time (seriously! "this is a new song, it's called buttfuck
parlour time." It's weird because he was rapping it. sounded
kinda like something pop will eat itself used to do.)
then he did a few acoustic numbers (think they were elvis tunes - to match
his sideburns)

All in all, it was a damn good show. things got pretty intense during down in
it and head like a hole. the security seemed to suddenly dissappear, allowing
stage divers and stuff to go nuts.

I saw a playlist across the stage. among the four or so songs i
managed to make out on it were get down, make love and heresy. he didnt
play these though, which was kinda dissapointing. it was cool to hear the
pretty hate machine stuff (which still remains my favorite nin work) but i
was kinda looking forward to some of the new stuff - like heresey, hurt,
mr. self destruct, a warm place, ruiner. my guess is he will probably
play these during the real tour. he kinda has to right? since it is a downward
spiral tour, not pretty hate machine II:pigs.

BTW, i want to thank whoever called me up and offered me a ride to the concert.
that was pretty cool of you, even though i wasn't there when you called. i
ended up finding my own transportation, which involved a golf cart and my own
two feet.

Anyway, tomorrow (Saturday) he's supposed to be playing at Berkeley somewhere.
someone told me the name of the place, but i forgot it. if anyone in the
stanford area is planning on going, i'd appreciate a ride if you can fit me
(seeing as how it'll be a damn long walk with or without a golf cart).
send me mail or something. thanks.

if anyone cares, i was at the front left, up against the railing. wearing
green.

oh, and if you didn't figure it out, the above encore is complete lies, they
actually didnt play one. bastards.

Hey please post/mail me as well... I am in Arizona... but traveling to see
the show would be awsome... and well, I'm gonna have to leave now.

I'll be checking my mail remotely... so please e-mail a response... as to
where the show is (and if you could directions... I'm coming in from the
south...)...

And Bret, if you wnt a ride... and we get there... sure thing.

And I was upset for about 20 seconds - until I read the above that is.
(they didn't play one at Temple in SF either)

At the LA/Helter Skelter show, we were in the DJ booth, waiting for the encore,
when the road manager came in and told us to put music on. When asked about
the encore he said "NIN never plays an encore".
