Spunk! Eno, the actor and me! Car Song! Power of Love c/w ..(I forgot)!
Ankle Bracelet! Skull Bubbles! Beautiful! Career Politicians!
These were some of the highlights on last night's Heiligenhaus show.
Somebody will write a review of the show I am sure ( Andy, Dennis, Paul?)
Jaan and Schroeder are perfect for Mike's music, perhaps someday the MK and
Friends will play on the other side of the Atlantic..

News: Mike will perform on the 9th of June in the Concertgebouw (evening of
guitarplayers each have a 20 minute slot?) w/Jaan Wessman?)
Also on the 10th of June: Nijmegen: Mike Keneally performing with Jan
Akkerman!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All of these shows including the Metropole Orchestra gig on the 8th of June
will be broadcasted on Dutch radio.

Wow, now we'll have a bunch of new "6 degrees of Mikey" things

For example: Mike Keneally - Jan Akkerman - Peter Banks - everyone in
Yes.

There was some amazing musicianship on stage in Heiligenhaus! The
above mentioned songs are indeed probably also my highlights, to which
I'll add Cowlogy and a lovely sparkly Potato.
Eno & The Actor is an unlikely but hugely succesfull live song! That
one probably was the single most grin-inducing song of the night.
Goodmorning Sometime also was played, which was fun, including
Schroeder's attempt at a snare-only drumsolo ;-)

Bring on the recordings!!

The fun thing about these shows is that it's not only great music, but
also an opportunity to meet some fellow Keneallyfans and friends. It
was great talking to everyone again!

That was one cool moment when Co told us all this news and we were all
looking in disbelief at him...

Ow-ooooo! - I might have to go to that.

From http://www.concertgebouw.nl the performers also include Debashish
Bhattacharya, Nguên Lê, Kelly Joe Phelps, Gary Lucas, Marc Ribot, Wiek
Hijmans & Derek Bailey.

From what I've been able to find out, Nijmegen is a town about 70 miles
from Amsterdam. Is there any more info available about this performance?

Hooray for internet access! The tour ended last night in our home away
from home the Waldsee Club in Freiburg with a gig that was basicaly a
giant party with an audience invited. Great fun with "I WAs Not Ready
for You" as one highlight.

Best concert for me was Halle- a magic night of improvisation and
communication-Uglytown in particular visited all the suburbs of that
song. All partied long and hard that night HH the following evening
did not reach the heights- although the long second set came close.

Spending the next few days in Freiburg before flying back to Finland.

Your tired and happy friend in Freiburg

Andrew

PS much love to all our Dutch friends who crossed over the border and
as ever to Claude who organised the German leg of the MKAF tour.

I was suprised when I read about this concert somewhere on
affz, and being physically present at the venue on the
announced date and time was a matter of course. So I took
the two minutes car drive from my workplace to the club and
bought me a ticket. Later at home the next suprises: I
placed the ticket on the phonedesk near entrance just to
avoid forgetting the date, and there it sat the old one from
last time. "Oh!" me went, 'cause by comparison I found out I
got ticket number 25 again! I thought "Wow! Is this a good
or bad omen?" - I still don't know... But another thing
punched my pupils:

Mike Keneally, Tuesday 07/23/2002, 8,- Euro
Mike Keneally, Thursday 03/27/2003, 12,- Euro

And then you have some deadheads complaining in affz about a
20% increasing of ticket prices for the new The Dead tour!
Sheesh! 8-)

Anyway, when arriving at the concert I took place at the bar
(where else, right?), ordered a glass of water, and clinged
myself the whole time up to the first break in performance
on this glass, jealous of all the guys around me holding
Warsteiner bottles in their hands. Yes folks, I need my
driver license!
The venue wasn't crowded much, probably due to the fact the
club does not much advertising in surrounding cities. The
only thing I saw were some posters in cowtown Heiligenhaus,
and maybe just Velbert. Like last time, no info about the
concert in those program sheduler in my hometown you can get
for free at bars. That's probably why there were only
roughly 70 - 80 paying persons in the club, which let enough
space to let the air flow between guests.

The main amusement at concerts for me, beside the music, is
to watch the crowd during enlightment from their stars. My
observation post during the whole concert was still at the
bar, near the cash register, not moving, still clinging. So
me could have been found on the left hand side of the stage.
Now, when good guitar players are giving a concert, then
there are always some not so good guitar players around,
just to peek from the artist what they might got wrong
during self taught guitar playing lessons. In this case a
very young guy, standing first row directly in front of
Keneally, and the whole time looking like paralyzed on
Mike's fingers. HEY! YOU! Does this green glitterguitar have
some big tits, or why are you constantly looking at it? - I
may have seen this guy the last time, too.

Other people have fun taking some pictures, and thanks to
today's technology we all can see in the display on the back
of the camera what the delinquent recently shot: Mike during
guitar solo, Mike keyboard playing, his friend next to him
with a stupid face, two shoots of Mike again, the bald head
of an innocent member of the audience in close-up, then Mike
again.....

But audiences can also be very annoying. There's always a
couple of people nerving others by constantly chatting over
a long period during delightful performance of the artists.
In my case two guys and a girl standing right next to me
talking loud for several minutes. I have serious plans to
contact Mike for a secret hand signal I show the next time,
on which they emediately stop playing, freezing for a few
seconds, and then start playing America Drinks And Goes
Home. (Alternatively bringing in a gun) We may have to give
additional instructions to the barkeepers to operate their
cash-register. My audio panning would have been something
like this: Left channel the band playing loud, because I
stood in vicinity of the loudspeakers. Right channel picking
up chattering from crowd, especially the jamming in front of
me. Surround channel the cash-register right behind me. Now
THAT would have been a quadraphonic experience!

Music?! - Oh, yes the music! From the lineup I expected
roughly a concert similar to last time. First hour
jazzrockfricling (Jazzrock-Gefrickel), then acoustic, then
moderate songs, etc. But this time the band mixed it all up,
which made the performance more appealing to me, especially
the jazzrock part I found a bit nerving the last time. The
highlight of this concert is the acoustic guitar part. That
always makes the most fun to listen to. I can't provide a
setlist, I'm not too familiar with his musical output, and
not fan enough to pray every title forwards and backwards.
But sometimes Mike was in serious danger to loose the red
thread during some of his soloing, especially the jazzrock
ones. It's boring to listen to noodling for several minutes.
In Mikes case: The more his face cringes the more he drifted
away in space and time. Time signature changes, apprupt
stopping and switching to different styles, etc. are way
much entertaining, at least to me.

PS: Next time Schroeder needs a Beethoven bust on his
drumset.

PPS: I couldn't resist. After the break I ordered a
Warsteiner, too.

Wow! The last digit of the month and day are transposed, but the dates are
otherwise a year apart! The price in both cases is exactly four times the
last digit of the year! That puts the Kennedy/Lincoln coincidences to
shame.

Few people realize that Abraham "Funk Man" Lincoln spent his early years
playing bass for the obscure fiddle genius Michael Kennedy. One night at the
local saloon, a band from out of town known as the Kentucky Dolphine Boys
came to hear the Kennedy band play. When the bartender had failed to serve
these fine gentlemen, Abe put down his bass guitar (yes, they had them back
then, but they looked an awful lot like a bad BC Rich design) and approached
the bartender to yell "Hey! Get off yer slave-owning ass and pour up some
beer for those Dolphines!" Then they all played Free Bird for the rest of
the night.

True story!
