Hi, Mike! (and anyone else reading this....)

While reading the mentionedinanotherpost "Mike Types to You", I found a
list of songs that were supposed to be on "Sluggo!".
Among these were: "Poo-Tee-Weet?", "I Hope You're Glad To See Me", and
"Draconian Blump".

So, are "Poo-Tee-Weet" and "Draconian Blump" the same as the ones we
know and cherish in our bosoms? And what became of "I Hope You're Glad
To See Me"? And did you use your thumb?

I'll send you a chicken taquito for every question answered correctly!

Thanks!

Laugh and laughing fall apart,

I think the "Poo-Tee-Weet?" we know and bosom-cherish was dashed off
shortly before a KPBS radio appearance in Feb 2000, which would DQ it
from being the same as mentioned for Sluggo! potential. Unless I'm
wrong.

The origin of "Draconian Blump" is documented on the Nonkertalk
interview, believes I -- it was conceived as a dense Egg Zooming kind
of thing, and only bits of it ended up in the Bitches Brew thingy on
Nonker-thingy.

Do I got the taquitos if my answers were correct?

Hey Mike K.! I was standing outside your home the other day, and I noticed
that the towel you wrapped yourself with after getting out of the shower had an
interesting floral pattern on it. Where did you buy that?

Interesting, too, to note that the much-desired-by-most-fans "Bob Dylan's
Nose" almost made the cut. When, oh when will we have our beloved BDN?
Hmmm?

And was I the only one who saw the reference to "Yogi (the other guitarist)"
and did a Scoobyesque "huh?!?"? Too many damn guitarists named Yogi around
here.

Was the working title that Beller accidentally announced actually "Sluggo!"?
I'm guessing it was.

There's a picture of Jack Jones, Mike's replacement in Z, here:

Somebody bribe Thomas Nordegg and get that MiniDisc of that Shankar show,
please, okay? Thanks.

that is all,

No, Phish references are fine (or phine), just as long as they don't rhyme..

(sorry - No wait, I just had an idea: Everytime someone makes a Phish
reference, we have to make a rhyming game out of it - I mean, a drinking game
would be better, but it is Usenet, so...besides, if everyone finds the idea
utterly repellent, we would all avoid Phish references like the plague, right?
It would almost be like if someone quoted "that Scottish play.")

Actually...I enjoy Phish.

Usually broiled, with lemon...although pan blackened or grilled can be nice
sometimes.

I should probably go now...

I'll take a salmon steak or fillet, brush it all over with some
garlic-infused olive oil, salt and pepper it, and sear it in a pan until
it's nicely crusty, and then finish it in a 350ºF oven.

Yum. Or...ooooh, catfish, with a cornmeal crust and lots of cayenne and
other spices...mmmmmmmm...I'm making myself hungry.

I love a good salmon steak, too. Yesterday I had sushi, though. Albacore
tuna, flying fish roe, plus unagi rolls and Philly rolls. And a big damn bowl
of duck soup alongside it. Man, those noodles could stop a train.

I don't know what's more surprising...that you can get that kind of
stuff in Indiana (you are in Indiana, right?), or that anyone would eat
roe (not to mention unagi). Was the eel at least cooked? It's so oily
and boney...ugh.

It amazes me too, that I can get this stuff in Indiana. Indianapolis, though,
has a lot of really good restaurants - and more all the time. Most of the
sushi places have popped up over the past five years or so - andthere've got to
be a dozen of them, easily. The Mikado, where I had the stuff I mentioned
above, is on the more expensive end, but it's a damn nice place inside.

The eel was in the roll configuration - so there's a lot of rice and some
avocado (I think) and some other stuff to disguise any oiliness - plus a nice
plug of pickled ginger afterwards. I still kinda like it. Oh, yeah - we also
had some sort of octopus thing in a salad as a kind-of appetizer, and I
actually enjoyed it. The last time I had octopus, it was more rubbery. This
was rubbery, too, but it had a genuinely good flavor. But I didn't look at it
too closely before I stuck it in my mouth.

I haven't tried to take my parents to a sushi place - and haven't even really
mentioned to them that I've acquired that particular taste. I just can't
imagine the look on my mom's face, seeing this being that used to utterly
reject most green vegetable things (still hate lima beans), sticking raw sea
creatures into its face. The shock might be too much for her.

You mean you weren't there when he bought it? When he paid with a 20
dollar bill, but the store assistant thought he'd only given her a 10,
so he only got a cent back, rather than $10.01...?

The one with the pink flowers or the one with the blue flowers? "Ol' Blue" is my
favorite...

Ah yes, "Ol' Blue." That's the one he wore on his head the night he wasn't
wearing anything else and he was dancing around the room during the Ed, Edd,
and Eddy marathon on Nick. Mike, you need to clean your windows, I'm still
not sure what that birthmark is.

It's clearly a rather largish mole in the form of TV's Frank.

In the beginning, there was Wade and Wade spake thus:

>Hi, Mike! (and anyone else reading this....)

I remember that there's a page on keneally.com where Mike talks about all the
songs on Dancing, and he recounts that the lyrics to "Poo-Tee-Weet" on Dancing
are excerpted from a larger set of lyrics which never really found a proper
musical home. I remember Mike talking about how it was about a girl who was
trying to get her father into Slaughterhouse-Five (thus the Vonnegutian title).

Don't take my word for it, do a little digging on the webpage and you should
find it.

As for "Draconian Blump," Puterbaugh has already directed you to the Nonkertalk
CD in which that song is discussed, and there's also mention of it I believe in
the "Two Motels" tour missive in which he recounts drafting what became,
eventually, the "Blumpy Hop." So you never know what'll end up on a Keneally
album. He's crafty that way.
