WAY OT: Good place to buy laser pointer?

means nothing to any of you. But it's fast.
Anyway, I've only seen one in a store, and that's at Radio Shack for
$30. Anybody know of any other places?

My cat does not even need batteries. Oh, you mean the dot. I don't know. I
have a few laser pointers somewhere, but I have no idea where they are. My
cats like to chase the dot too, but usually, I just let them chase each
other. Perhaps you would like to get another cat. They don't use up
batteries, but they can eat cat food faster than I can go through a can of
WD40. You can have one of mine. The cat, that is. Not my WD40. The kids
might cry, but I can send them along too. On second thought, that might not
work, and their school tuition is a lot of money. But they don't eat much.
You can go through a 20 bags of pretzels much faster than they can finish
the food on their plates for one meal.
I don't know much about the technical aspects of laser pointers, but I would
assume that the rate at which it uses batteries would be governed by the
intensity of the laser, the type of batteries, and the overall efficiency of
the circuitry. I don't think that the latter would be a big factor. I
would expect the biggest factor to be the batteries themselves. So I guess
the real issue is whether there are other brands of batteries that would
last longer or be more economical, or whether there are other pointers that
use different types of batteries or for which the laser intensity is
sufficiently lower or more efficient to the point that it helps. I think
the real issue is that fluffy is getting way too much attention. Try a toy
mouse, or one of those springy rods where they chase the fluff at the tip.
They get just as much exercise and fun out of it, but it saves batteries.

I don't know where you might find a specific model, but it sounds like you need
one that takes AA or AA batteries - which are cheaper and last longer in a
laserpointer. I think they're still available, but I could be wrong. Just
like printers, it's an evil scheme to get you to spend for the consumables
(batteries, ink cartridges) after hooking you with cheap hardware.
My cats are bat-shit for the dot, too. Especially Malkovich, the stupidest of
the lot. It's a good thing, too - he'd hardly get any serious exercise if it
weren't for chasing the dot up the wall, and he's getting to be a fatass
anyway.

You must be using the same kind we got a couple months back. Little gold
"lipstick" looking tube, right? Uses little watch/hearing-aid batteries?
We use ours all the time and haven't had to replace the batteries yet.
Maybe you've got a short or something? Admittedly, they're now starting to
die, but I figured they wouldn't even last this long.
Where *does* one go to get a decent non-watch battery laser - cheap?

I bought one, also specifically as a cat toy, at Ace Hardware of all
places for $5. I've had a couple of <$10 ones and they ALL seem to
eat those watch batteries. Maybe one that's more expensive up front
would conserve batteries more.

and last longer. I have 1600 mAh AAs and 750 mAh AAAs, and both seem to
last longer than alkaline batteries. Don't get the batteries at Radio Shack
(sorry Fear) - they cost much more than say the Rayovac ones I got at Best
Buy and have lower mAhs.
Question about the laser pointer. I have two cats, and one is very, uh
sedentary. He is also 20+ pounds. My late cat, Tiferet, used to love to
chase after flashlight beams. But both of my current cats don't seem to
care about them. Do you think they'd go for the laser pointer even if they
don't care about standard flashlight beams?

point it in the Little sods eye then there is less chance of damage
