Is there a way to send live MIDI over the internet so that as I play the
piano, someone else far away can listen to it in real time?

The Rocket Network has come the closest that I know about....
Cant play in real time...but you can record your tracks...upload to a
server...and everyone in the chat room with you can hear what you did....

Im waiting for real time jamming on the net....

AFAIK the standard internet protocol (IP) is not designed for
real-time applications but for maximum flexibility.
So I guess as long as you use an IP-based connection, it's not
possible to do jamming over the net.

You could try very, very long MIDI cables.

This is simply impossible. The internet is just not for 'no'-latency
applications. Programs like RealAudio etc. all have latencies because they
have to use buffering since the program doesn't know if it gets all the info
in time. It depends on the speed of all connections between you and the
listener, it depends on the lenght of cable between you and the listener
(This only gives you at least a 3ms of latency and only theoratically) and
it depends on how many people are using the internet when you are sending
midi data.

But why do you even want to send mididata in realtime ? And even with
latency...the person on the other side of the world doesn't hear the
difference between you pressing a key and hearing it ?

Get a sequencer that works with live jamming on the net at
http://rhythm.harmony-central.com/Rocket/

its not realy live jamming, but seems like it.
When you enter a studio, you get an option to receive what has gone on so far,
and then add your tracks, and post it back.

There is also live jam, but I can never find anyone using it when I try it.

Here is where to get free software to try it.
Where can I get software to let me play my midi keyboard with someone else on
the internet that has soundblaster live and a midi instrument?
You will need a direct internet connection to use this software. Proxy
services like Aol, etc., will not work.
You must have a tcp/ip connection.
LiveJam Alpha 2.0 LiveJam is a product that enables musicians the world over to
play music or "jam" with each other LIVE over the Internet. Musicians can log
in with any nickname of their choice, take a look at the rooms available, join
the room of their choice (or create one of their own) and then literally make
music together with other musicians. Simply connect your MIDI keyboard to the
computer, or you can use the computer keyboard as a virtual piano.
