I have heard people reference the fact that on the boots from the 1970's
that
Meat Loaf seemed to be shouting his way through the songs rather than sing
them........
........Do they also forget that Meat loaf would TRY to *sing* the songs and
the record companies would get after him?
As to his voice now, I ALWAYS question a performance from television from
Meat Loaf. He just never sounds the way he does live. As a matter of fact,
I believe that Meat was sounding MUCH better on LIVE...AROUND THE WORLD
than what he was sounding on the BORN TO ROCK TOUR. (Ah! the wonders
of studio overdubs). But, did any of you get a chance to see the
STORYTELLERS
TOUR live?
Meat Loaf sounded totally different than I have EVER heard him sound before.
I really cannot explain it, but there is a certain maturity in his voice.
While I am on the subject, I MUCH prefer the *live* versions of Meat Loaf's
songs,
well, ANY *Steinsong* for that matter!
Jim Steinman, in my humble opinion, writes the songs to be performed live.
There is my $0.02 for a while.
I am FULLY prepared to be attacked, once again :-)

Hi David,
Like you I also see a maturity in Meat's voice. I think it is better
today then it was in the late '70's..

Now in regards to Meat singing Live compared to CD or TV..I love
hearing Meat live also..Because he adds more into the song to make it
more show-y for the stage. Also in regards to TV. I hope I am not
bursting anyones bubble. But most times Meat & the NLE are mouthing the
words to playback. So they aren't actually singing. Which is why you
notice a difference between TV and a LIVE performance..

Meat sounded great at the Philadelphia show & Washington DC
show ,during the Storteller tour. Although I didn't notice much of a
difference between this tour and the WTTN ..in regards to Meat's
singing voice.

Miriam,
was it me......
or did you notice a bit of *lip non-synching* during the ST show on VH1.
Aslo, wasn't it refreshing to hear Meat TOTALLY LIVE on this tour?

David,
First let me clarify my statement you commented on. I was referring to
TV only, when I wrote that. This is info is based on info told by some UK
Meat fans, who went to the filming of some of the TV shows Meat did in
the UK,before the tour in the Spring of 1999.At some of the TV
appearance they were mouthing it & some they were not. So it could just
be the TV shows producers dictating how it is done.

I also heard that Meat & the NLE mouthed the words at a few shows
during the WTTN tour.But I couldn't tell.

Now as far as Storytellers TV Programme..I really didn't watch
carefully to notice if there was any lip-synching..But I do suspect
there may have been a little during the tour. Because Home By Now/No
Matter What, sound exactly the same at the Philadelphia & DC show. But
hearing Meat's show LIVE always rates for me above TV,because there is
just a different kind of feel to it. I can explain this more later if
you want..Because if I do it now I will be late for work.

I agree...Meat does sound soooooo much better live than he does/did on any
album. I have been to the Storytellers Tour, and his voice was just
awesome...unlike anything I have heard before, even at previous concerts I
have been to.
