Start by listening to Neil Young: Down By The River
and tell us how what you are looking for compares to that.

The next two 'classics' that come to mind are be
Bruce Springsteen: The River and
Richard Marx: Hazard

but it doesn't sound like either of those would fit.

Not even "Close to the Edge" (Down by the River) by Yes. I read the
description in the original posting.

Or not even "Downstream" by Supertramp.
