I recorded this song from Public Radio and know most of the lyrics, although
the phrase I refer to in the song as "Kewl Phen" is my best attempt at a
phonetic pronunciation; I would suspect the actual words might be Gaelic. It's
just a guitar and male vocal; a really pretty song. Anyone know the artist??
Thanks!!!!!
It was early one Mornin' Willie Leonard arose,
And straight to his comrade's chamber he goes,
Crying Comrade, loyal Comrade, let nobody know,
It is a fine summer's mornin' and a ' bathin we'll go.
To the lakes of "Kewl Phen" two comrades then came,
And who should they meet but the keeper of Cain,
Turn back, Willie Leonard, do not venture in,
There is deep and dark water 'round the lake of "Kewl Phen."
Oh but Willy jumped in and he swam the lake 'round
He swam for all Ireland, it was soft and even,
Crying Comrade, loyal Comrade, do not follow me in,
There is deep and dark water 'round the lake of "Kewl Phen."
It was early that mornin' Willie's sister arose,
And straight to her mother's chamber she goes,
"I dreamed a sad dream about Willie last night.
He came to my room in a shroud of snow white."
Willie's mother arose and she went to the lake
There were four and twenty young men all dressed in white.
There were four and twenty young maids, all dressed in green,
Just to show that Willie drowned in the lake of "Kewl Phen"
Just to show that Willie drowned in the lake of "Kewl Phen"
