earlier. I'm having trouble tearing myself away from this stuff. but
one note, watch Gord as he sings and listen to the clarity of his vocal
recording. That's what mic placement was about back then. An
ElectroVoice 635A omnidirectional mic, low on the stand, not obscuring
the face of the perormer, and, thus, not hetting any pops or sibilants,
and leaving the camera to see the performer. How often do you see that
today? Even with Gord on stage? Everything has gone to uni-directional
mics (cardiod patterns) shoved almost up the singer's nostrils so the
people in the audience can't see their face.
Anyway, this archive is the most awesome thing I've ever seen, Lightfoot
or not, regarding music, history, etc. I once toured the CBC center in
Montreal in about 1972. Told them I was visiting from the states
(true), that I worked for PBS (well, sorta true, I worked for a PBS TV
station), and that I really wanted to see how they did it in Canada
(totally true!). Sharman, her brother Steve and I got the velvet glove
tour of the whole facility.
I gotta figure out a way to capture those streams. I can't trust even
the CBC to keep them available forever. ;-)

ya know - i don't think i have ever been as excited to be on the internet
as i was when i came across that stuff. i literally didn't breathe for what
seemed like 30 minutes. i cried, i laughed. lisa came to see what the
commotion was all about - she thought i was nuts. i wanted to run out in the
street and tell everyone what i found! i just hope the damned CBC smartens
up and releases more stuff and not just on the internet-they should run some
of that old stuff on the CBC instead of some of the crap they broadcast now.
i think i will write them a letter!
can you imagine all the stuff??? omigod!! i'd have to get an oxygen tank
installed here!

computer guiy, I can help take the ball to the 1 yard line. There is a
program called " WM Recorder" that will record video to the hard drive on
your computer.
The website is: http://www.wmrecorder.com/index.php
The software is a free download for a "trial" period. It will only record 2
minutes of video for each clip unless you purchase the product. The full
price to record the complete videos is USD $29.95.
It works great and is very easy to use. I recorded the first 2 minute
clip and played it back. It automatically opened Windows Media Player. I was
even able to play the clip in full screen format! Hope this helps !

Yeah, I tell ya, it's just pitiful. In Austin it was only a 5 minute
drive to Starbucks but would he listen to me whine? Nooooooo! "Oh,

Ah..yes the drinking would do that...gee in my "teenage" years,
we had the displeasure of drinking "Pure Grain Alcohol" and at
190 proof...well spin cycles don't exsist,well let's put it this way,
I don't remember anything,but me and a friend had the whole
street lit up with police cars...lol That stuff in my opinion,is a
certified explosive..LOL If I tried to roll over on my cat (Tristan),
all 25 lbs of him would certainly make his claws very useful:)

Oh man! You actually remember it? I envy you that. I can only go on
reports from less-than-reliable friends. Me? I tend not to believe
them. I mean, listen, if the stories were actually TRUE ... ya know?
Well, anyway, we lived through it and only moderately the worse for wear
I guess. Coulda been a lot worse. It did help to have a brother-in-law
as a big burly bouncer at the bar you drank in. And where the local
cops all came at the end of the night. Hey, nothing better than being
driven home in a cop car and saying: "Soooo, like, can I put the siren
and lights on?" And Officer Bill saying, "Aww, what the hell, why
not?!!!" Do you know how loud a siren was at 3 in the morning in 1975
in a tiny little town in the middle of central Pennsylvania? It was
really really LOUD! The PA State trooper was terribly unamused. But,
ah, hey, professional courtesy. And another anecdote to stuff away in
an overcrowded storage bank. Lord, The 70s. I maintain it was all a
negative reaction to Disco. My mind just couldn't cope. Thank God
there's no picture of me in my corduroy leisure suit. Well. At least I
don't think so. Hmmmm. Nah. Couldn't be.

LOL....well I flushed the disco...I mean..it was
Gord,McCartney..Clannad..the good stuff,oh I
had cousin fix a hem in my jacket,she told me
"to get something for use on polyester material",
