Hi Sean,
As of today I'm still waiting to see if Greg will be up to
a visit.
I should hear something by Saturday.
It was a pleasure to meet Greg's sister Kim and her
husband, Guy.
Very lovely people.
(I'm trying to coordinate with Abby too)
Whatever Greg and his family are comfortable with will be
fine.
I do not want "the visit" to seem like it's forced or
intrusive.
I know Greg and his family are aware we're all thinking of
him.
That may be enough. It may be all he needs.
I'll certainly share with the ng if I see Greg and he wants
that.
This is the place where he spoke "at length" as we all know!
I couldn't come close to that man's ability to speak on a subject;
with insight and intelligence too. I just speak on and on....
Best to all here,
Dar
I am so sorry to share that I won't be able to follow through with
visiting Greg this Sunday.
I have to leave the east coast today to take care of a medical
emergency with my brother Donnie who's in a nursing home there.
But, I did get to talk to Greg on the phone and it was so nice to hear
his voice after only seeing his postings for years.
He mentioned he didn't want to "put anyone to any trouble" to come and
see him. Trust me, I let him know that it would be an honor to meet
him. I gave him a good talking to. He seemed to enjoy it after all
was said and done and he agreed with me. hehe
Abby was all set to pick me up in Baltimore at the bus depot too. I'm
hoping she'll still be able to visit Greg.
I've asked her to share info for those here. I will likely have no
access to the internet for a bit; or it will be hit and miss for
awhile.
(Hope Donnie will be ok but I just won't know much until I get there.
The problems with living in a small town and getting accurate info.
grrr)
Sorry to hear you'll miss the Baltimore trip, but really glad you
spoke with greg. I hope he's hanging in there and maybe Abby can get
over there. And it would be great if someone could come up with a
mailing address for greg. I found an address on the VA website for
hospital in DC but I don't know if it's the right one. Anybody know
where we can write him?
I'll keep my fingers crossed for your brother!

We spent half an hour talking, a little bit life review and little bit
gossip. He was so humble; more or less the first thing out of his
mouth was something about how the responses of the people who gathered
around his sad announcement didn't have much to do with him. This is
a rare moment in the life of our community, you know. I felt
particularly suited to this job because I've spent a few years as a
hospice volunteer. And then there's Leonard. One of the things I
like most about hospice is the opportunity for all the bullshit to
drop away quickly when death comes close. And so Greg's announcement
brought death onto the scene and birthed a whole slew of messages that
are real in the best way. That's how the first thing he said could be
true. But it's also true that he isn't just any asshole who posts to
these groups. You know that.
I don't know what else to say. Greg's sick but he isn't dying, not
yet. He's gentle. He didn't like my tattoos. I wish Dar coulda been
there. He's starting a new chemotherapy on Tuesday, and he's
appropriately hopeful. I'm just honored that he let me into his
little room.
Thanks Abby for the news.
and thanks to the forces of life that brought you into his little
room.

This sounds really great, Abby. It was nice of you to have the posts
to the forum bound, so he can look at them without having to be
online, and it's wonderful that brought him some songs. I hope you (or
others) will be able to see him again.
And I totally want to know what you gossiped about! : )
Sean
Thanks for the report, Abby! :)
And Sean, we gossiped about you guys, of course : )
