Very sad to hear of the death of Kate MacGarrigle, although I'd known
she had cancer for some time. Here's a lovely piece of concert footage
from, I think, last year performing with her son Rufus Wainwright.
Rufus isn't on camera on this one though you can hear his voice
clearly. It's a joyous and funny few moments, now filled with pathos.
The song 'Talk to me of Mendocino' is one of my all time favourites,
sad but not mournful.

Thanks, Fiona. I haven't followed the 'family of Kate, Rufus, Loudon'
but your sending me to YouTube allowed me to listen to a number
of moving performances, including some by Leonard. Bless the
courageous who fight cancer and bless the ones who go gentle
into the Light.

Love

True that.

Some time shortly after Ms McGarrigle's passing, i posted a radio
broadcast from '77, her & anna & fellow musicians, downloadable mp3
links to be found here:
http://groups.google.com/group/rec.music.dylan/browse_thread/thread/e5747c0c7cff57cd?hl=en#

I'm not sure how this internet works; if clicking doesn't work, you
might have to cut & paste the entire link.

For anyone innerested. Who might've missed it.

I know this is a bit offTopic for this group, but if for no other
reason, the sisters mcgarrigle belong here, sharing as they do a
Canadianness with Leonard.

Here's a couple more Mendocino youtubs:

Sad ? Mournful ? Poignant ? LifeAffirming ?

That said, in reading of Kate McGarrigle's death i found some stuff to
note, but the best i've found is in this Vanity Fair tribute:
http://www.vanityfair.com/online/culture/2010/01/20/kate-mcgarrigle-a-tribute.html

where the former dean of rock criticism, Robert Christgau, is quoted:
}
The anarchically genteel living-room music of these sisters has to be
one of Canada’s greatest contributions to world culture.
{

Set me to thinking of my grandma's parlour, where music both staidly
decorous and unabashedly libertine found outlet.

That vanityfair article references Kate's last (?) composition, and
its performance "Proserpina". Here 'tis 09dec09:

Thank you all for having me here.

Sincerely, and genteelly anarchic,
dudley
